Doesn't that make Bush-bashers and Clinton-bashers two sides of the same coin? It's sad how intelligent and reasonable people distort reality to suit their own tastes and jockey for position to shove "the other team's" faces int he dirt.

There are very few problems that can be blamed on a single administration. Several of Bush's policies certainly didn't make things better but he is not the root cause of every mess.

History will probably not look too favorably upon the entire scope of Bush's administration...unless Obama turns out to be another Jimmy Carter.
Classic!

In all seriousness that's a very good point and I certainly didn't mean to suggest that everyone needs to have a broad and deep education on every matter before commenting.

It just seems so obvious to me that the problems in this nation, economic or otherwise, are too deep and complex to conveniently pin to one guy. The other side of that mentality is that a new president will suddenly reverse this entire thing (I don't care if you vote for Obama or McCain). One guy and his administration isn't going to reverse decades of overgrown government, schizophrenic foreign policy and enough pork spending to drive this country trillions of dollars into debt.

The same mentality is evident in football. The team loses and the immediate reaction is to find the one guy we can all blame. I guess there's something cathartic to feeling like you can pin all your frustration on one face.

It appears that there is an entire subculture of disgruntled individuals who have very valid beefs with this current administration. Unfortunately the extent of their knowledge on the topic pretty much cuts off after they watch the Daily Show every night or their favorite political pundit.

Like someone pointed out earlier, it takes a whole lot of people to pass a bill or defeat a bill or propose a bill. If you kick back on your sofa in self-satisfaction as you parrot whatever the "Current Administration Joke of the Day" is, you're completely missing the real problem. And that goes both ways, Republican or Democrat.

I'm well aware that our problems run much deeper than who holds the title of President. And yes it's convenient and satisfying to a degree to just blame it on Bush or the current party in office. I'm guilty as charged.

Now, anyone have a good youtube clip today or what?

And we're all entitled to our opinion and method of doing things, but should this mentality masquerade as real political discourse?

I'm well aware this is a football forum and who knows whether anyone here takes this stuff seriously or not. I'm also well aware that the number of nasty arguments and vitriol that gets spewed here when it comes to political topics would seem to indicate that the general mood goes beyond just joking about politics. People appear to be genuinely pissed off which would indicate an emotion of some sort.

"The left" appears to be delighting in the abysmal failure of the last eight years and taking every opportunity to mock it. I fully support that right, however immature it may be. For the record, it was just as immature for "the right" to parrot on like a bunch of schoolyard kids toward the end of the Clinton administration.

There seems to be this "Well, you made fun of us first, so you reap what you sew" mentality going on. Sure, but you do realize it goes both ways, right? Let's say Obama gets elected in Nov and serves at least 4 years if not 8. Are you prepared have another helping of the same immature political rambling after your candidate has served his time?

The best anyone can come up with is "Well they did it too!" and "Well the administration is so bad how can I NOT call them names and argue by posting funny verbal flub videos?" Congratulations, you've managed to just lower yourself to the level of every other idiot out there.

Whether you're justified in the name-calling and petty arguing or not I don't see how anyone can deny that it just perpetuates the cycle of political and cultural ignorance.

It's not wonder this country is so gravely disturbed. Someone "be the bigger man" and actually tackle the problems and issues for what they are and participate in constructive discourse rather than calling names, posting a funny video and somehow feeling like you've "scored a point" when "the other guy" gets pissed off about it.

Points well taken, but in the end this is just a football forum as you say, and we occasionally spin off into some off topic talk now and then. Are we impacting the world with what we're doing here?

I don't think we're revolutionizing the political landscape here at The Warpath, but don't underestimate how regular discussion of any kind can influence your attitude and behavior.

I take everything here with a grain of salt (in dmek's case I use a whole salt shaker), but I have without a doubt learned a great deal from the few people on here who can articulate a cogent argument, whether I disagree with it or not. I've grown to appreciate and respect a great number of viewpoints that I previously didn't understand, all thanks to discussions here on "a football forum."

We're probably not changing the world as a whole, but don't underestimate the impact you can have on someone's viewpoints or especially their view of the people you support. Why needlessly turn people off to your candidate by spewing a non-stop stream of immature political vitriol? You just make yourself look bad and that reflects poorly on the party and/or issues that you genuinely support.

Yes we are. I just heard on the news that after reading about the problems with the national dept clock on the warpath that Bush borrowed $2,345.00 from Japan to buy a new Dept clock.
