Anyone doing crossfit?

A few people at work are doing it and swear by it. Has anyone done this?

CrossFit critics include writers who use the term "cult-like", [1][6] fitness professionals[3][12] and a senior officer who commands the U.S. Navy’s Center for Personal and Professional Development.[2] They say Crossfit workouts are so intense that participants risk injury or even death from rhabdomyolysis. In October of 2008, a Virginia jury awarded $300,000 in damages to a man disabled by a workout at a CrossFit-affiliated gym. (The trainer was uncertified and CrossFit was not named as a defendant.) [3] [4][2]

CrossFit responds to criticism by citing an essential element of its methodology: workouts should always be individually scaled and varied. Critics fault CrossFit's high participant drop out rate (up to 80% at Glassman's Santa Cruz gym).[3] CrossFit responds that its high intensity and competitive atmosphere are not for everyone. CrossFit says the drop out rate is also high at conventional gyms — where many clients rely on machines, record few performance gains, and pay in advance for annual memberships they quickly abandon.

I think I will pass. I have had good luck with keeping my weight in reason with Weight Watchers and a normal work out three days a week mixing cardo and strenght training. WW really makes you look at your portion sizes and senseless eating habits. It is unreasonable for people to think they can switch their lifestyle too some Olymipic training schedule and diet and think they are going to maintane that lifestyle.

I still eat pretty much everything I want in motoration and keep up my three days a week execrise. I am not riped but I can take my shirt off at the pool and climb a flight of stairs without passing out.

Oh yeah and I can look down in the shower and still see my dick. If you can't see your dick anymore fatty it is time to work out!

I agree, I think a reasonable diet and moderate exercise is more than enough to keep you healthy.

I work out at my local YMCA 3-4 days a week where I do weights or cardio for at least 30 minutes a pop. As far as diet everything in moderation, the only thing I try to stay conscious of is my carb intake. I'll replace potatos or fries for veggies when eating out alot of the time, and I avoid sugar as much as I can.

When I was doing time overseas we had this workout program that really seemed to work great.

As for the program, I realize it's not for everyone. Personally, I'm not looking to lose weight or "just" stay healthy - I am 6' 175lb and I do cardio about 3 days a week. However, I want to get back into playing soccer at a reasonably competitive level, and that requires a level of fitness and physical stamina I just don't have right now. This program seems like a good fit for that goal.

If my goal was just to lose weight and be able to see below my belt-line, I would agree that this isn't the best way to go.

Sundays this time of the year it is really hard to not eat well. Lots of junk food and drinks out there on Gameday.

Am I the only one that does touchdown pushups everytime the Redskins score? However many points we have that's what I do each time. Let's me drink an extra can of suds guilt free.

crossfit is popular with police and military, but you've got to be careful... not all trainers know what they're doing, and its VERY easy to hurt yourself by pushing too hard when you first start out trying it.

that 300k$ suit was ex-military who got pushed too hard in his first workout by a clueless uncertified trainer.

i'm not a workout guy, so i've got zero interest in it myself.

I did Crossfit for about 6 months - it was grueling but fantastic. I'm back to cycling 12 weeks of powerlifting with 12 weeks of kettlebells.

Crossfit isn't for everyone. Like That guy said, it's very popular with police and military, people looking for a really high standard of very practical fitness.

If your goals are to fit into those size 38 pants or not get winded running up a flight of stairs, steer clear of crossfit.

If you're going to do Crossfit you need to be incredibly dedicated and motivated. Your typical gym rat who does a few sets of benchpress and calls it a day will be smoked after a Crossfit workout. Only the particularly dedicated make it through for any significant amount of time.

I would highly recommend it if it fits your goals, but your goals should be to attain a pretty high level of physical fitness and general athleticism. This isn't a "lose 10 pounds by Christmas" kind of program.
