I just got back from the VT West Michigan game...63-0. awesome. we are going to be a force to be reckoned with. Our defense looked great, forcing turnovers, and we blocked 2 kicks...great game.

Western Michigan shouldn't have even been on your schedule.
IMHO... going out of conference to play a punching bag team and running up the score doesn't show much guts or class. VT got beotch-slapped by real competition last week.

what??? leading the #1 team in the country in the 3rd quarter is gettin beatch slapped? losing by 11 to the #1 team in the country is getting beatch slapped? i have to dissagree there. we still played a strong game regardless.

VT was #1 itself not too long ago.
Now they're satisfied with giving up 17 second half points in a "moral victory"?
If beating on W Mich is something to be proud of... how the mighty have fallen.

There are quite a few freshmen that are starting this year for VT. I was actually suprised that the team did as well as they did against USC.

yes, we were number 1 when we had michael vick and stuff, and we lost a lot of good players. we arent ranked, and we played that well against the number one team...thats not too shabby. if we didnt get that off. PI call, i think we could have had that game. that was the turning point. regardless, shutting out a D 1 team that isnt like Army is impresssive. 63-0, thats gotta do something

especially when we lose Dangelo hall and Kevin jones...i mean 2 first round picks, thats never really good for a team. and if you bruing up miami, thats because they are just insane. vt is no miami when it comes to recruiting i admit this.

I would have been much more impressed with a 35-0 victory.

first few games are preseason/settling in type deals anyways, except they count. Who's care though, wake me up when bowl games have been decided.

Why should a team lay down and die to make it boring for the fans? Let the boys play! So what if they ran the score up. I sure as hell hope Gibbs does the same.

I don't. It shows a lack of respect for your opponent. If Joe stands for anything, it's respect.

Running the score up in college and running the score up in the NFL are two different things. In NCAA there are 100+ teams vying for basically 25 poll positions. In order to get noticed by those doing the voting, sometimes you have to kill teams like Western MI by 63 points. In the NFL, running the score up will do nothing but get people on your back. In the NFL, you get to the playoffs by your W-L record.

In the NCAA you get there by your W-L record, but also by how well you dominated during the season.

(Yes, in the NFL points can be a factor if teams are tied in several other categories, but this rarely happens.)

if you run up the score in the NFL, you run up your players stats, which makes it harder to hold on to them, in NCAA, running up stats helps draft positions and recruiting (potentially -- "hey, look how high our players get picked")...

I understand That Guy's explination for NFL stats, but what do you consider running up the score? As we saw in the MNF game against Indy Tampa Bay had a flurry of TDs scored in 4-5 minutes. It just goes to show you're never safe. That's 28 points. If you score 63 on an NFL opponent maybe they should think of relocating, because they sure as hell aren't selling many seats where they reside.

If you have a chance to score, you take it. If there's 20 seconds left and you're up by 14, don't kick the field goal. But with the 4th quarter left to play, finish them. Leave them in the game and it can cause trouble.
