Although the Barack song was in poor taste, I guess I'm so desensitized, I kinda snickered when I saw the title to this thread.

I mean I think you can make fun of different races as long as you can do so with tact and actually be funny. It's a thin line between making witty racial commentary and coming off as racist. I've seen white comedians make jokes about black people and I'm not offended cause that shit is actually funny. Asian comedians tend to do it a lot too.

And come on, black comedians cap on the black race all the time probably MORE than any other race. Remember Chris Rock's set about the difference between black people and the N-word?

It should be noted that the phrase "The Magic Negro" originated in an opinion piece in the LA Times by David Ehrenstein back in March of 2007.

So it wasn't the Republicans who came up with the term. The guy who writes parodies for the Rush Limbaugh show simply took the term Ehrenstein came up with made a stupid song out of it.

I keep hearing this line of thought...we're just creating a parody based on presumably liberal not so racist L.A. Times writer. This fact alone makes the whole thing inoffensive. If anything we should all get together, have a sing-along and a laugh. People are putting too much stock in what the term "Magic Negro" means, the lyrics of the song, and Rush "Fountain of Wisdom" Limbaugh. We're getting too PC in this country and it's sad.

Yeah... I knew it when I heard people at McCain/Palin rallies screaming terrorist, Arab, etc at mention of Barack... we've just gone way to PC
