I have lived in the south, and based on his reasoning I can understand and support the Bill if I lived there. The succession of the south was about more than just slave owning. To help people understand the entire story and honor the fallen I think that it can be beneficial for all people.

| Re: what some people will do to get off work... I don't see why not. We've Lee Jackson day in Virginia and it's a paid state holiday but not a Federal one. Everybody has a day or a month now. Some of these days and months mean nothing to large groups of people and everything to another. If I had my way I'd cancel all of them. If we're going down the road of European Socialism maybe we can just put all of them together and take off August. We can call it go fishing, get drunk, and screw month. |

| Re: what some people will do to get off work... It doesn't matter to me because we are open on most of these holidays and it seems only banks and poeple working for the goverment who get these days off. |

| Re: what some people will do to get off work... I guess I sort of see his reasning but I think this is not the most efficient and logical way to help improve race relations. Maybe he should worry about making bills that require schools to teach the entire history and work towards understanding it rather than the revisionist history that comes from our schools about the civil war. |
