Re: Who Cooks?

I never thought of seasoning with Kool Aid. Good idea!

I like you better as resident BBQ guy from now on. SBF would have flipped out at the suggestion of Kool Aid on a pork shoulder.

Re: Who Cooks?

My only gripe with the briquets is the ash that it produces.

I chose to go with wood mainly this time because of how it burns down, and I heard the same about lump charcoal. I heard that it burns hotter and longer so I'm guessing I won't need to use as much ?

That's the charcoal that I bought actually !

Re: Who Cooks?

That's pretty sweet ! I always liked how Gas Grills have the section for a skillet to fry peppers and all.

This is the grill that I have

Brinkmann Smoke N Grill Charcoal Grill - 810-3038-S at The Home Depot

And this is the one that I want

20 in. Oklahoma Joe Longhorn Offset Smoker - 10201630 at The Home Depot

Re: Who Cooks?

Yeah I want that big B too! I don't have a recipe for real but I'll definitely tell you what I do. I'm trying to do better at documenting what it is that I do. I'm about to start smoking this batch now. Just took them out the fridge and I'm lighting the grill as soon as I hit post quick reply! Wish me luck.

Late last fall the company I work for had a huge fundraiser for juvenile diabetes and Children's National Medical Center. My buddy has a gigantic smoker (like the kind with a trailer hitch on the back it's so big). We smoked a 300lb pig overnight with cherry wood. Fantastic.

Re: Who Cooks?

GM I'm trying to get to that level where I can just drop a pig and wait. Must have been beautiful.

Well this is where I was about 9 last night.

And here we are about 9 this morning

By the way, I am NEVER using Briquettes when I smoke ever again. NO ASH ! The lump charcoal, firewood, and hickory wood blocks has treated me right. Great heat, lot of smoke and most of all, NO ASH !

Re: Who Cooks?

This was 3:45 when I took them off the grill. About to wrap them in foil and put them in the oven on 200 to cook in its juices.

Re: Who Cooks?

So I'm gonna try my hand at smoking/slow cooking ribs on the grill. I've been to youtube and all but I wanted to know if any of you have any tips or suggestions for me. Thanks in advance !

I smoke ribs all the time. I would suggest a sweet wood like apple or cherry when doing ribs as it leaves a nice flavor. I use a dry rub, then smoke for 4 hours at 200-225 temp. The last hour I use a sauce and cover them about every 15 minutes and this works very well. Fall off the bone goodness every time.

Good luck!
