As the history books has it, Christopher Columbus actually gave the Native Americans the name of "Indios" because he thought he had reached the East-Asian mainland. Of course, as time progresses and dictionaries change their definitions, the definitions of Native Americans and Indians eventually blend. Not a big deal, but I'd say it's only logical to think the more proper term would be Native Americans simply because they are native to America.

I was talking about this on a long car ride over the weekend. Theyre actual not necessarily native to America, however; they are indigenous to America. I am a 100% native American as I was born here, however; im not a “Native American” proper noun. Apparently this is why whenever you fill out something from the government you are not given the option of Native American (since it would apply to everyone born here), it usually says American Indian or something along those lines. Also wiki has a whole section about terms used to convey American Indian’s and apparently many American Indians arnt cool with the Native American term we all think is so pc. Heres just the summary: Quote:
Additional: Native American name controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I think this PC crap (outside of intentionally hurtful and offensive name calling) is all too complicated and ridiculous in ALL instances. Seriously if youre a citizen here then youre absolutely nothing more than a plane old American.
