Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
If you were the Texans and your 1st round pick is 22nd, would you rather

Use you 22nd pick on subpar/unproven QB
Give up your 22nd plus more picks (maybe next year's 1st) to draft unproven QB
OR give up your 22nd pick and next year's 1st for a QB that was pretty good in his only full year starting.
Remember that option 2 may end up costing as much as option 3 or more in terms of draft picks. Also that this draft is widely considered poor in terms of QB skill. A team like the Texans(or Broncos) who have a late first round pick and a need at QB might take option 3.
The main problem is that the Redskins have right of first refusal. They can put together any deal they want (that they can live with) and the Redskins simply sign the deal instead, and you have to assume they would for any near standard deal. |
I'm just curious to know when was the last time a team traded two first-round picks (or even one first rounder) for a player with the non-exclusive tag. Anyone know? I think Cassel was trader for a second rounder.
Cassel was traded, the Pats just put the tag on him to keep him from being a free agent. The only time I remember anyone giving up the picks to sign a franchise player was Dallas did it in 2000 for Joey Galloway. There might be others I just don't remember any. It is rare at best, but like I said QBs are hardly ever given the non exclusive tag. |

The Texans have about $40 million more in Cap space than the Skins. If the contract was heavily front loaded the Skins might not be able to match it. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Nobody is going to trade for him. End of story. Scot and co did their homework, guaranteed.

Texans have 32M in cap space. We have 35.5M tied up in the QB position. Then when we release Griffin we are in the same place that the Texans would be after taking on any KC contract. But Matty is right, no team is gonna try to sign him. Sent from my S6 Edge |

Hey jackass(since we are insulting people) you acted like there was no possible way for KC to leave.. It most certainly is possible. I Am here to tell you, You don't know what the fuck you are talking about. You might think you know something, but you don't. |

That was 2 first rounders, although I don't know how Franchise tags worked at that time. |

Yes I'm sure things work differently back then, but two first rounders were a lot to give up, I don't remember anybody else doing it |

Well I know this, he can't leave. Because he agreed to sign the tender, he's signing it tomorrow morning, which makes him ours on a one year 19.9M deal. He can no longer negotiate with any other clubs. Note it didn't take him long to make this decision BECAUSE HE WANTS TO BE HERE, something every real fan has known all along. Now kindly fuck off and come back when you know 10 percent as much as I do. I'll will try to slowly explain to you using small words why the bold sentence is wrong. Non Exclusive means he can, in fact negotiate with other teams, in fact that is the major difference between the exclusive and non exclusive franchise tag. Your whole 2nd paragraph is dumb as fuck because unless you are his retarded half brother you don't know Kirk Cousins well enough to say he is so happy here he would not take a better offer worth millions of dollars somewhere else. You only know the half assed shit you read on this forum or twitter or whatever. Did you understand that? I can't tell if you are fucking stupid or just ignorant. |

Tell you what genius, go find me the NFL rules that say you can keep negotiating with other clubs AFTER ACCEPTING THE TENDER. Or save yourself some time, wander over to the Post's Insider page and read the current headline. I'll wait here for your apology. |
