Wentz is gone and Heinicke is a FA. Since Turner is gone, he likely isn't coming back either.

So by default, we're adding 2 more QB's. I don't think anyone that wants Howell to be the starter in 2023 has said we shouldn't draft another QB somewhere in this draft.
Right, people are acting like we want Sam to be the only quarterback on the roster. Lol. Again be specific when you wine about Sam being the projected starter. What are you giving up to make it hard for him to win the job? We are not getting Rodgers for league minimum lol. We are not getting Into the top 5 in the draft for a future 6th round pick. Everyone wants the best quarterback possible. Nobody is saying the only answer is Howell. But if you want someone like Rodgers or a top 5 pick u r paying through the nose for it. There is no stud coming in here to take Sams job that we won’t have to mortgage our future for.
Do u consider the last pick in the draft an investment ? It is about as minor investment as you can make. We will go into 2023 with three quarterbacks on our final roster and Sam will have to beat them out in camp to start. That is obvious. The question remains what will we invest in those other guys? Some people on this board (not you im just piggybacking on your post) are acting like we can just bring in some big time arms to fight for the job. Where are they coming from? I wish that when people say things like “ sam didn’t earn anything and needs to have competition “ they would elaborate. Are you wanting to give up draft picks to take a guy like Levis? Are you wanting to give up a ton of cash and whatever else for Carr? Are you wanting to reach on say Richardson in the first? Right now Sam is our best option. So if you are not in favor of giving up picks or cash or both for someone specific than where is this strong competition coming from? Andy fucking Dalton?
Personally, I do consider the last pick in the draft an investment, albeit minor as you said. Had SF picked any other available player, they likely wouldn't be playing in the NFC Championship next weekend. They took the pick serious, and drafted Purdy. They could have taken a chance and tried to pick him up after the draft, but they decided to invest the draft pick on him to ensure they got him.

There are so many scenarios and what-ifs that we can go through from here until the start of the season. For me, I really don't care where they get the competition. I'd rather not go after Carr, Garappolo, etc., and I don't really want to trade up to get a QB, but if they decide to take one of these courses of action - fine. Hope it works.

My hope is Sam is the guy, but I would like them to bring in a 'Brisett type guy' who they also like, and have a competition. Hopefully Sam wins and the Veteran QB will be his competent backup. I would also like them to draft a QB to develop for the future. I would rather fill some other holes with the earlier draft picks and pick a QB later, but ultimately I don't care where the QB is drafted as long as the value makes sense.

Yes to trading up if they believe a Levis is a franchise QB

Yes to giving Carr a 3yr/100M/50M guar contract

Yes to taking Richardson if he falls naturally to us and they have a 1st round grade

Yes to signing a Brissett, drafting another day 2-3 QB and seeing what happens

Yes to every possible QB option

---

I like Howell but Im not pausing my search for the next Burrow/Allen/Mahomes bc we have a 5th round rookie QB on the roster

I don't want a lameduck HC/front office making any massive investments in either money or draft picks for anyone, a QB included. Where we are as a franchise, in terms of the strong chance of turnover and the possible sale of the team, Howell makes the most sense in 2023 in that regards too. Major decisions should be saved for 2024 imo.

I don't think you can put the franchise on hold because it appears the team will be sold. As much as you may not like or agree with some of the decisions made by the current regime, they are still in charge. Personally, I hope they continue to try to make the best decisions they can to make this team better, and that they have the resources to do so. I'm sure I won't agree with all of their decision this offseason, but I want them to keep trying. If what they do ends up working - great. If not, I am sure the new ownership will deal with them appropriately.

As I have previously said, if RR and company can get this team rolling next year and they are competitive in the Division/NFC, then I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that they will be dismissed.

We were a decent team last year, we can still make the playoffs by signing a few reasonably priced FA's and drafting well. I don't think we need to do anything extreme this year to move the team forwards. Franchise tag Payne, re-sign Holcomb, sign a few reasonably priced FA's, draft a LB, CB, and a couple OL, and we can be better next year.

Man you guys want to talk about Sam Howell in every thread.. lol. Everyone always loves the unproven guy...

Anyway... Dak is garbage. He has to be feeling some heat today, as is McCarthy.

You know things are bad for Dak when the Cowpukes social media team is burning you in public:

Ouch.

Cowboys in a world of hurt with the roster. They got a long list of contributors who are UFA and another list of overpaid players. That Michael Gallup extension looking dumb now.

UFA:

LVE, Dalton Schultz, Cooper rush, tony pollard, McGovern, Barr, Hankins, Fowler, Anthony Brown, Carlos Watkins….

Shit I’ll take Cooper Rush as the free agent QB. I bet he gets a long look around the league.

Absolutely never stop searching and doing your due diligence. I can tell you Carr is definitely not the next burrow/allen/mahommes though lol. Signing Brissett and drafting a later round guy im all for. Richardson im probably passing on if there is, and there will be, a shutdown corner or stud tackle/G available.

Cant get desperate and start trading picks and paying for every possible option- thats how you wind up with Wentz……

Loving the turmoil in Dallas btw!

The guy Trent elbowed screwed up.

Their star left tackle wants to start something .. star player makes contact with you?

You push him back 10X as hard and make this a thing. Force the league to do something to Trent.

It should be some scrub or asst to the ass coaches dream that some opposing star player wants to be stupid pre game.

We talk about Sam because.. Wentz is gone , Taylor is probably leaving and that only leaves Sam and Jake Fromm … who are we supposed to be talking about ?
I hope we sign a vet QB that makes sense.. I hope we pick another QB in later draft rounds .. but I really really hope we revamp the Oline ..
