So basically RG3 in his second year learning while Manning is a vet and knows what to say. Lets remember Manning wasnt quite Manning in his first couple of years. Wasn't it his 4th year where he threw 23 interceptions?
Also Manning had deflected blame from himself in his younger days. Imagine if RG3 came out and said they had "protection issues" like Manning did after the Colts played Pitt a couple of years back. Hopefully RG3 will learn just like Manning did how to say the right things and be a better QB. Or maybe Cousins will instead.
Plus no one would be whining about a lack of weapons. Manning would make his own weapons out of whoever they trotted out on the field with him. |
Griffin has been horrible. Manning has not. Griffin is a diva who never accepts responsibility for his own failings. Manning is a true leader and takes responsibility for the failings of his teammates. This situation would never happen with manning because manning is a classy hall of fame player and rg3 is like a petulant child who feels he's entitled to respect he hasn't earned.
Those are pretty harsh words about Griff because of one post game interview where he didnt say the rite things. I mean dont you think you are blowing things out of proportion just a little bit? When did he say he was entitled to respect? If Manning was 24 playing on a shit team put together by a stubborn shit coach maybe he would have appeared less classy. Just sayin,..... |
Shanahan is a genius and he is never wrong about quarterbacks!!!
“Let me say, when John Beck did come out [of college], I had him rated as the top quarterback coming out that year, and I didn’t even think it was close,” said Shanahan, who traded with Baltimore last August to get Beck. “I had a lot of confidence in John Beck when he came out in 2007. I evaluate the quarterbacks every year, and I do have confidence in John Beck. He was by far my No. 1 guy. I think the world of him.” Shanahan has won one playoff victory in 14 years. Jesus fucking christ can we move on from this overrated self absorbed know it all? He fucking sucks now, and just cause he got lucky drafting running backs in the 6th and 7th round, everyone thinks he is a genius. If he was such a fucking genius, then why risk losing a stud like TD and ALF by letting 31 teams have them up for grabs for 6 straight rounds? He rode Elway to two superbowls, and after he retired, NOTHING. NOTHING, no postseason success, not even an AFC divisional game. Why the fuck is it so hard to see that this guy fucking sucks?
Very well said. Remember this is the genius who "staked his reputation that Beck would be an excellent starting QB". |

Why do people think Shanahan was lying 100% of the time...except when he talked about John Beck?

However with the cap penalty I'm not sure how we could have anyways. Right now, I don't think rg3 has the respect of his coaches or teammates. He needs to grow up in this offseason if he wants to have a future in the league.
I don't hear anyone with inside knowledge saying this. RG needs to concentrate on football and prepare for next season. |

It's not one interview. It's been all year. And he has a reputation for being a diva. The Washington post has been throwing out tidbits for a while. He's got a lot of Clinton Portis in him. Do some internet searching. Also, nfl.com reported tonight that rg3 was benched for poor performance, plain and simple. Add to that the reports that shanahan never wanted to trade for rg3 and that was snyders pushing, and the present situation makes a lot of sense. I don't think shanahans a great coach. And by all accounts, he's not the easiest person to interact with. But rg3 isn't some innocent victim here. Anyone who feels confident he's a franchise qb is an idiot. He used to be athletic, but now he's just another qb who the team gives extraordinary slack because of what he cost to get. I think it's more likely He's a bad investment were going to hold on to for too long than the savior of this franchise. |

"I'm not afraid to sit here and say, 'Put that on my shoulders,' " Griffin said, via the Washington Post. "I'll take that. We didn't start fast because of me. If I've got to do a little bit more to clean up that sloppiness, then I'll do it." But I guess when your not playing well its to be expected that people are going to paint you in a negative light. Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
RGIII is our starting QB in 2014. If Shanahan doesn't agree he will be fired. He had an amazing year, and this year as a team was just abysmal. He is our franchise qb.
Now that he is benched, which there are pro's and con's to either side, he is guaranteed to have a full off season to work out and learn the offense and get reps. Next year no more knee brace, more confidence, and a better team with the extra cap money and picks. I want RGIII for 10 more years, but I want him for 10 more years in a real NFL offense. Pistol read option should be a limited wrinkle, not a base play of the offense. This is the NFL, everyone is an athlete, he won't last long with the big hits he's taking every week. Per this year, just like every other year since 1991, lets get em next year. Hail! |

No, he wasnt. I thought that when I first tuned in. He kept saying the number one, two overall pick. Talking about us, Houston, and Atlanta. He eventually acknowledged his mistake. The premise to his entire rant was that it is a win win for the Redskins next year- Griff healthy and the number one pick in the draft. He went on for a solid five minutes referencing our "first round" pick several times. Lol. |

That is bush league work! How do you have a job discussing football and not know the RGIII trade details. Man, I need to start applying. Know what sucks about not having a 1st round pick? A lot of mock drafts only do 1 round, so I don't get to see who they predict for the Skins. |

I mean all the talk about the situation in DC and one thing nobody has mentioned is that Shanny is throwing the season away for the first pick....because we dont have one! Lol. Dont you think that somebody in the free world would have thrown that out there? The guy must literally live under a rock. I hear you about the draft, but as a Skins fan this isnt the first time we have had to google search for "full mock drafts". Lol |
Jerome bettis actually agrees with mike and says Griffin needs this time to study from the sideline, honestly it does make some sense
It makes some sense to let Cousins play, you just can't spin it as something you do for Griffin's benefit. The team might be better in the short-term without Griffin trying to play through his struggles. But there's no question it hurts the team long term to sit him.
The person making the decision has no long term future, and only has a short term future. You can put two and two together. |

There are a finite number of live game reps a young NFL player gets and all of them are valuable, even the bad ones. Right now we are averaging 69 offensive plays per game. That's 207 more snaps of live action that Griffin isn't getting. That's 207 times seeing a live defense, seeing a blitzer, reacting to a coverage, reading a defense, etc that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else. By opening day next year, Griffin will be 8 games (4 regular season/4 preseason) games behind his 2012 rookie peers. No matter how you try to look at it, this isn't a good thing for his long term development. This is a final F-U from Shanahan to Griffin, Snyder and Redskins fans. How people aren't getting that is pretty baffling to me. |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
I simply don't agree its the right decision. Coach the kid. Work on the gameplan to focus on what he needs to improve. What does he learn on the sideline in 3 games? Not much. It appears his biggest issue right now is his confidence. Coach him and put him in a position to build back the confidence.

glad 43% of the forum agree to bench rg3. haha ur "agreeing" with a coach whos getting canned based on that dumb move. way to go boys

Shanny is a complete control and power freak. There's just no way he would have let Snyder force a huge decision like that on him. Zero chance. |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
if Kirk looks like Brady this weekend ill say fine good move. but if he stinks it up just like rg in this system with the morale so low it lowers his stock and demoralizes our other player. if we were gonna switch to cousins why not just finish with rg anyway and have cousins come out the winner of a training camp battle if they felt like he was the better player. more will come to light after sunday because if kirk kills it out there and we win, now its a whole new monster. i think shanahan wants that. im not sure what to think.

That's not entirely true. I do. So do others. I only want RGIII to sit long enough for the Shanahans to get out of town so that Kyle won't have any more chances to do something stupid to get him reinjured. That is the bottom line. When RGIII came out of college, I was most excited about the way he threw the long ball. He was one of the best at that that I've ever seen. Second, his arm strength. Third, his athleticism in terms of his ability to avoid the rush and make a potentially negative play into a positive one. Fourth, his great speed and running ability. I never viewed him as a runner, per se, except on rollouts and occaisional QB draws or read option plays, just to keep the defense honest. Here's what has happened to him this year: First of all, he's not fully recovered from his knee injury. Second, he has had to deal with very poor pass protection. Third, his receivers are not getting open on a consistent basis. Also, he is only in his second year and he is learning to become a pocket passer in the NFL. With his intelligence and drive, I don't know how anyone could doubt his ability to learn his trade very well. I think he will come back strong next season. |
