I thought they normaly keep nine, with Ethan Albright as ten. |
Re: Official UDFA Signing Thread
This crummey guys sounds like he could be something. He was an all american his jr. year right? Usually all american as an O linemen is a pretty good indication of pro ability, unlike the 'skill' positions where so many of them aren't much as pros.
If it's just a matter of him healing then hopefully the team sticks w/him to give him time to heal. Maybe the chargers thought he wouldn't recover fully, but they also have a more crowded roster than ours. |

I think if he had been healthy he would have been a high draft pick. If he heals up and the team decides to keep him we might have found ourselves another steal. |

"Redskins placed wide receiver Steven Harris on injured reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season. Harris was injured during Washington's first minicamp. The former undrafted free agent from Arkansas has never recorded a catch as a pro." |
Re: Official UDFA Signing Thread
crummey is a good pickup. 6th round value, so good for us.

Re: Official UDFA Signing Thread
Sports Illustrated has Crummey ranked better than a couple 4th round guards.
They have only 6 guards between him and Chad Rhinehart who we selected in the 3 rd. However, the grading also shows about a dozen guard better than him were undrafted too...half of them even grading higher than Rhinehart. I dont know what to make of this link...but it seems they are fairly close to NFL opinion on other positions...but guard has undrafted folks ahead of 4th round picks. This guy would have probably been a 4-5th rounder if he didn't break his leg twice IMO. SI.com - 2008 NFL Draft - Breakdown by Position - G Also Scout.com has him as the 13th Guard...only 3 behind Rhinehart. Re: Official UDFA Signing Thread
for what its worth on Crummey from San Diego Blog
Scouting report on Crummey. Andrew Crummey Scouting Report by The Wannabe Scout Pros: Andrew is a very aggressive blocker who loves to get out to the second level, and punch defenders in the mouth. Has excellent hand usage, as he consistently locks out on defenders and either drives them out of the play or uses their own momentum against them to direct them out. Very steady output – does not make mistakes. Cons: He is not the best of athletes, and can sometimes get caught not playing over his feet, although he has good enough balance to make up for this. Does not always recover well with proper footwork in pass pro. While he was extremely durable up until his broken leg, this will definitely be something teams will want to be careful about – he should be ready to go possibly by bowl season, certainly by the combine and personal workout. Overall: What a great name for an interior lineman – and he lives up to it, as opposing defensive linemen know they are in for a rough day when they are pitted against him. He plays to the whistle on every snap, and clearly loves the contact, delivering a solid initial punch. He does a nice job of locking out and keeping defenders away from his body, allowing him to direct them away from the ball. Really gets off the ball well when asked to get downfield, and has great success blocking in the second level. His offense’s unquestioned leader, a consistent rock called on to perform well every game. While he won’t wow you with his athletic ability, his consistency, toughness, and smarts will allow him to be a very productive long-term starter in the NFL. His injured leg (and position) will probably make him a 4th to 5th fifth rounder, but he should be able to step in and help a franchise fairly quickly, especially in run-blocking. AND From what I've heard.. This kid was projected as a 2nd-3rd round pick and due to an injury his grade was lowered to 4th or 5th rounder... Still teams shyed away from him due to his injury and MR AJ could have himself a 2nd rd talent (OG) who could replace Goff in a year.. Like Siler last year --- AJ likes kids who slip through the tracks... I Guarantee you Crummey out plays "EVERY" OG drafted in this years class, and last longer in the NFL than all but 1 or 2 of the OL (yes OT's included) if he stays injury free... Watch this guy on film, and you see a "road grater" with a plus motor, and solid pass protection.. Probably the best signing this offseason so far... AND FINALLY...this is good for us... So much for that...
