1. Calais Campbell, Cardinals defensive end. Campbell produced 7.0 sacks in his first season as a starter, more than predecessor Antonio Smith has ever managed in a season. Sacks aren't everything, particularly for a 3-4 end, but Campbell is already better than some veteran starters. He'll earn $470,000 in salary this season on a deal averaging $726,250 per season. Vinny, not that you had much credibility to begin with but you better hope like hell that one of your ugly duckling draft picks turns into a swan.

Nice mid-offseason report from ESPN

Parker is the obvious man out if we manage to sign Westbrook.

I like Willie Parker, I always have, but if he's got very little burst now, he's going to have a tough time beating out Keiland Williams, much less Brian Westbrook.

I've got a soft spot for Williams as I have in-laws in LA and I've become a pretty big LSU fan since I met my wife. Because of this, I watched him play a lot in college and I've always liked him. He seemed to have good speed for a college back and could take it to the house if you got him into space. How that will translate to the NFL? I have absolutely no idea, but I liked him at LSU and I liked him coming out. I was happy when the Skins got him, but I don't know if he's built for the NFL. The Shanahans will have to make that decision, but I'm rooting for the kid to do well and beat out whoever he needs to to make this roster.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to have a little bit of youth in the backfield.

There's a host of players like Williams who, at some point come through our system and we wish we could keep them all. A farm, like baseball should be negotiated as a part of the next cba.

He could be the darkhorse in the RB mix, if not for this year possibly next.

Redskins Insider - Shanahan: Skins have made offer to Brian Westbrook
Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan made his most emphatic public overtures to free agent running back Brian Westbrook Wednesday, saying Washington has made Westbrook an official offer to join a full stable of running backs that already includes veterans Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker.

Asked after Wednesday's offseason workout session if he had heard from Westbrook or his agent, Shanahan told the assembled media, "No, but if you guys hear anything, just tell him that we're ready.

"We want him to sign with us," Shanahan said. "Like I said, it could be some great competition. I really like Brian, what he's done and how he's handled himself. I'm sure he's weighing some options. It's not too far away from home. Any more I can do?"

Shanahan was reminded that Westbrook's younger brother Byron plays cornerback for the Redskins. "I've played that card already," Shanahan said.

Westbrook, 30, played his entire eight-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles before he was released this offseason. He is coming off two concussions that limited him to eight games and 274 yards rushing--his lowest output since his rookie season of 2002. St. Louis also has shown interest in Westbrook.

Westbrook's quarterback in Philadelphia was new Redskins signal caller Donovan McNabb. Though McNabb emphasized Wednesday that he has no say in personnel decisions in Washington, he said he speaks with his former -- and perhaps future -- teammate regularly.

"It's not just pertaining to football," McNabb said. "I just want the guy to have an opportunity to continue on what he started and prove the critics wrong that he can still play. If it's here or anywhere else, that would be his decision and for the people upstairs. For me, I'm just trying to get my feet settled and get this thing in the right direction."
I hope Westbrook decides to join us and I hope it's soon. We need that big playmaker on offence who can take it to the house on any given play. That dude is deadly with screen passes. Sign Westbrook and then sign T.O. Yeah I said it.

Anthony Montgomery was taken in the 2nd round NFL draft by the Hartford Colonials.

I understand but I hope that doesn't happen to any one after August. Torain could, that is could, really change our offense for the better. He could become the newest Shanny back to come out of nowhere and really light it up.
