if only we hadnt given up a 2nd and a 3rd rounder for a guy who would be benched for a guy who was already on the roster after 13 weeks.
All true, but spilled milk nonetheless. I just don't believe that Shanahan fully appreciated what a circle jerk, cluster **** of a franchise he was inheriting. Now that he has a grasp of the scope of this job, he's blowing it up and starting over. About 8 months after I would have liked to have seen it happen, but oh well. |
Re: Report: Grossman Starting on Sunday
I think Shanny wanted to give a playoff run a shot this year. Now that it is obvious that is not going to happen I am hopeful that this will begin a major overhaul for the whole team. I don't think Snyder brought Shanny in here for one year. It's not like we are throwing away a winning team, we didn't have much to start with as it is. All I have to say is this. Use the Raheem Morris model. Jettison vets and do a complete rebuild...
Well the way he's telling it is that now that we're eliminated he needs to evaluate his other QBs. Which I suppose could lead one to infer that he believed that as long as we were in playoff contention, DM5 was the one to get it done
This was my point in previous post, but what purpose is now served by benching DMac? |
Re: Report: Grossman Starting on Sunday
Maybe they've seen enough of McNabb all season to know that he isnt going to get any better, and he is allegedly injured (again). He is aging so they know that there was not much more to get out of McNabb than what we have already seen.
Rex Grossman over Donovan McNabb? Redskins have some explaining to do - Peter King - SI.com Great article here by Peter King. He basically says that Andy Reid and Mike Shanahan have gave McNabb the thumbs down. Also said that Washington was the only team interested in trading a high pick for the past-his prime QB. Oakland could have got him for a 4th rounder.... |
Re: Report: Grossman Starting on Sunday
I read this in the wash posts' "DC Sports Bog" after the Detroit game. It's a very revealing read for those like me that have only watched Shanahan's career from afar until recently. Take a look, Shanahan has made pretty brash qb decisions over the years:
D.C. Sports Bog - A short history of Mike Shanahan benching his quarterback On a side note, this blog is becoming more newsworthy than Skins Insider. Steinberg's intent is humor, but in poking fun at things he actually does some research that brings things to light like this. |

I can't stop laughing.
If it's any consolation. Grossman totally owns Kitna!
Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears - Recap - September 17, 2006 - ESPN
Yeah but the Cowboys own Grossman. Something has to give on Sunday. And this quote from KSK sums the game up perfectly: Sunday Sunday Sunday! Rex Grossman battles Jon Kitna! Live from 2006! |

Now I am actually kind of excited/curious and want to watch just to see how horrible, great, or unremarkable Grossman plays. A lot of QBs have been labeled failures or busts with their initial teams and have ended up having great careers. Why do people have hate for a guy that hasn’t really even ever been given the chance with us before?
you cannot be serious. we are talkin about rex f-in grossman, Rex Grossman, QB for the Washington Redskins at NFL.com , yeah that guy. i guess you are trying to make the best out of the situation and yes now i'm more interested in watching the game than i was before. the thing that really irks me is the lack of direction of this team. at this point shanahan looks like he is in over his head and is treading water. and you talk about vick coming in but the guy that i would have loved to keep around was jc. it all goes back to the bullshit philosphy of win now. we could have easily kept campbell and seen if he could have fit into the system, while they tried to rebuild a team instead of bringing in aging players and guys who were out of the league last year. the desicions that shanny has made so far are questionable at best. i think one of his biggest mistakes was getting rid of jc and betts, we could have riden them out for one more year instead of shipping off draft picks and aquiring crappy retread rb's bottom line is this team doesn't look like it will ever succed with snyder as an owner. ever since he has takin the reins we have gotten worse by the year. we keep diggin ourselfs further into a hole with no way to get back out. it's become very evident in the past few years that he could care less about the team winning as long as he makes money. our team was practicing in a ****in washington sports club yesterday, the washington redskins were practicing on a basketball court at a local ****in gym. people can defend him all they want but the guy is all about the money, yeah i know he wants to win but thats not his first priority. if it was he would be more concerned with an outdoor practice facility than putting more seats in fedex. |
Re: Report: Grossman Starting on Sunday
Something behind the scenes had to of happened, there is no way MS/BA would give up a 2nd round pick for a QB to play 13 games, yes Mcnabb hasn't played very good but it's far from his fault, he has Bo WRs, No Run game and a shaky at beat OL. Williams is a stud but everyone else is avg at best. I do t understand this team anymore, who cares what they do **** them as a whole organization!

Re: Report: Grossman Starting on Sunday
Those of us that said this was not a good idea and to keep JC were right.Anyone could see it is the OL and getting a franchise QB was not the answer.Hopefully we can make a deal with someone like the Vikings so the Skins can fix the OL.

Re: Report: Grossman Starting on Sunday
I don't understand why they couldn't understand from watching McNabb's time in Philly that his play was declining. If they had just done their homework on him we wouldn't have wasted a 2nd and a 4th. For all of you saying we lost a 3rd, no it was a 4th because he didn't meet any incentives. He's not going to the Pro Bowl, the Skins aren't making the SB, so it's a 4th rounder. Not that it matters anyways because the Saints are getting our 3rd rounder because of the J.Brown trade.

Re: Report: Grossman Starting on Sunday
I am not quite sure how benching a Named QB, and starting possible replacements to see how they do, is doing the same thing over and over. The only good thing about all of these recent moves is that clearly no-one is above reproach (except Rabach and those dang pictures). Yeah, it doesn't do good for PR purposes, and we still make headlines in bad ways, but nothing about this says accepting the status quo or DS makes the calls, and both of those are good things

Re: Report: Grossman Starting on Sunday
Why not bench the whole offensive line for sucking all season. we suck and deserve all the criticism we get! We are a joke.

"I should have done a better job of telling everybody at that time why I was making the decision. You don't always do everything right.
this was inregards to benching one starting qb for another. guess it's safe to say the old man doesn't learn from his mistakes huh? i really hope i'm wrong but i just don't see this type of philosphy that shanahan is trying to implement working in todays nfl. |
