re: Bin Laden Killed
There were a few that went out of their way to not mention President Obama in their congrats or gave credit to Bush, if you can believe that.
Anyway, who cares - this a great day for America. The hundreds of families who lost loved ones in 9/11 can finally close this horrible chapter and move on as best as they can. I'm mostly happy for them - and if only for a mili-second America feels truly united today. |

On a more lighthearted note, I wonder if Trump wants to see the death certificate.
In your link, under Boehner's picture his quote directly praises Pres. Obama.
Anyway, unfortunately, I am sure many politicos will end up politicizing what should be recognized as an excellent example of US pursuit of an enemy throughout competing administrations, and a demonstration of the strength and resilience of US society. Me, I just wanna stick to conspiracies, they are more fun anyway ;)
You are right, props to the majority leader john boehner. I love the fact obama said no to just bombing the place to hell and actually sending the seals....that's leadership. |

I had no clue this went down until this morning. I watched CNN, Fox, the local 3 ch and MSNBC. Everyone I saw interviewed or spoke on the issue gave Obama credit. I only heard one person that said he thought Obama did a good job carring on Bush's policies (something to that affect). |

Agreed, I haven't seen anything on CNN or MSNBC about any politician from the GOP not giving Obama any credit. |

That was done to prevent the killing of innocent people because it was in the middle of town. I think we really need to question our relationship with Pakistan. |

Regardless, it was in fact the right decision, and good leadership. |

From what I read there were women and children in the compound he was in that they didn't want to harm. They also wanted a body left to assess whether they got him or not. |

re: Bin Laden Killed
These guys sound completely badass:
The members of Team 6 are all “black” operatives. They exist outside military protocol, engage in operations that are at the highest level of classification and often outside the boundaries of international law. To maintain plausible deniability in case they are caught, records of black operations are rarely, if ever, kept. The development of SEAL Team 6 was in direct response to the 1980 attempt to rescue the American hostages held in Iran. The mission was a terrific failure that fell apart at many points and illustrated the need for a dedicated counter-terrorist team capable of operating with the utmost secrecy. Johnson explains the name is allegedly an intentional lie that dates back to the time of the Cold War. At the time, there were only two other SEAL teams and the name was meant to confuse the Soviets. DevGru belongs to the Joint Special Operations Command, an extraordinary and unusual collection of classified standing task forces and special-missions units. They report to the president and operate worldwide based on the legal (or extra-legal) premises of classified presidential directives. Though the general public knows about the special SEALs and their brothers in Delta Force, most JSOC missions never leak. We only hear about JSOC when something goes bad (a British aid worker is accidentally killed) or when something really big happens (a merchant marine captain is rescued at sea), and even then, the military remains especially sensitive about their existence. Several dozen JSOC operatives have died in Pakistan over the past several years. Their names are released by the Defense Department in the usual manner, but with a cover story — generally, they were killed in training accidents in eastern Afghanistan. That’s the code. The highly trained operatives who killed Osama bin Laden are part of a counterterrorism group so specialized that no one can apply to join it. Instead, they are recruited. They are chosen from existing SEAL teams, making the unit an elite within an elite. That may be only partly true, though. National Journal says members in general can be recruited from a variety of places including the CIA. Again, all the information comes with the “alleged” tag since the team’s work is so secretive and none of its details can ever be confirmed. re: Bin Laden Killed
Clearly, the guys who did this are so f'ing good at what they do it is beyond amazing. I can imagine the following scene in the Oval Office:
Obama: Okay, I have the confirmed intelligence. Team 6 is authorized to carry out the mission - kill Bin Laden and retrieve the body. Unknown Commander (Standing with Obama - and after speaking into a small mic in his lapel): Yes sir. Bin Laden is dead sir. Obama: Good when will the operation take place? U.C.: It just did, sir. Bin Laden is now dead. What do you want us to with the body. Obama: Wait, when did you kill him? U.C.: Just now sir, after you gave the order. Obama: Ummm, okay. Good job! It is unfortunate for that the men who carried out this mission can't be given the parade they deserve. I am sure, given the type of people it takes to carry out this mission, that they probably feel the mission's success was its own reward and that they are getting plenty of accolades within their community (like I tell my son: do the right thing work hard, and the right people will know your worth). At the same time, it would be both cathartic and unifying for the nation to be able to shower them with cheers. |
