I wouldn't count Jackson out, TJ Ward would have been a great pick up @ 5.5 mil
Dude hasn't played football in two years, and is still suspended, I think it's officially time to stop mentioning his name. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
With nearly every area of the team in need of upgrades, we should have realized that the Skins were probably not going to sign any top FA's other than Orakpo. Bruce Allen even said that he wanted to add 20 new players this off-season.
Still, I was anticipating one more top FA signing, like a kid hoping for a pony at Christmas. Now, it looks like we're going to have to build a better foundation before that happens. I'm not complaining (much). It makes sense but ...WHERE'S MY PONY?!!! |
Im actually really disapointed in FA day1 ill be honest. Few resignings, few special teamers, and possible replacement/backup for OL? Wtf was Allen doing today.. playing golf while Mitchell was being signed by Pitt or what???? If we have the same secondary were fkd.. corey graham mark my words isnt the answer. Smh.
Maybe those guys didn't want to come here or management finally realized that winning free agency each year never works. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Honestly, I thought the Redskins did pretty all right yesterday. They avoided most of the huge free agency mis-steps. They weren't one of the teams that got a lot better yesterday, but they have most of their cap room available still and can still find some value later on.
I remain perplexed by the way they evaluate the players they do sign, but they do seem very able to get a deal done with a player they want, particularly on offense. I'll be interested to see what the plan is on defense going forward, but they haven't missed out on all this talent that people are suggesting. They've mostly just missed out on huge, problematic contracts. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Super Bowls are won in April, not in March, so these moves have been good. They are not falling in love with names which is great. I think they are copying what Seattle does, which we all saw what that turned into.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
So, going into day 2 of free agency, our needs still include:
a safety more ol help another starter at ilb a number 2 wr dl a back up te and cb not panicking, there is still time and there is still the draft, but a lot of free agency depth disappeared yesterday. it will be interesting to see if we make some moves today (frugal ones I am guessing) now that the market has sorted itself out some. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
how good was Mitchells deal? hes the only one I feel like woulda been a safe option. young, gonna get better. the Raiders let him go wayyy to soon. I think not getting him in peticular bothered me. Byrd was the dumb move I knew and hoped we wouldn't do.
this free agency group was kinda weak. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
nevermind Mitchell not as young as I thought he was. alright. win.

good call, I forgot the punter. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Sources tell the Baltimore Sun that the Ravens and ILB Daryl Smith still have a "disconnect" on contract numbers.
Smith led the Ravens in tackles with 123 last season, playing all but two defensive snaps. GM Ozzie Newsome needs him back. Smith is likely hunting for more money than originally expected after watching 32-year-old Karlos Dansby squeeze four years and $24 million out of the Browns. We ought to look into the possibility of "disconnecting" him from the Ravens altogether by signing him. Then we can draft a young ILB and go from there. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
My remaining wish list: TE Andrew Quarless, S Clemons, DE Tony Starks, DT from Raiders, resign Reed, resign Tanard Kush, one:WR Britt, Nicks or Sidney Rice, and a decent Vet for Right Tackle competition, a reasonable CB and ILB.

TE Quarless - Good insurance for Reed. S Clemons - Solid player but not a playmaker. DE - Sign Antonio Smith today. Doughty - I guess we have to sign him; he won't go away. S Kush - Not re-instated. WR - Rice can play. No to Britt and Nicks because they quit on their teams. RT - I dunno. Didn't work last season. CB - Sign Corey Graham today. ILB - Steal Daryl Smith from Ravens since they don't want to pay him. |

This is getting concerning now though. We've missed out on Ward, Byrd, Mitchell, Jenkins, Whitner, Bethea...and pretty much all of the top safeties. We should probably look at the recently-released Thomas DeCoud as our best option. I think we'll still do well at CB. I didn't think we'd pay Talib what he wanted when we can get a solid CB for less money in Corey Graham, Captain Munnerlyn or Tarell Brown to team up with D-Hall. Right Tackle is another position we should get covered too, either with a good FA or a 2nd-3rd round pick in this solid O-lineman draft. All of the expensive left-tackle money guys are getting signed now, but we do not need to stand that much for a RT. Love the Roberts and Hayward signings so far and that guard we picked up sounds promising as a starter or at least solid backup. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Clemons isnt a playmaker, but he is a play stopper.
Im for Reed just because he is a decent special teams player with leadership abilities. I think we go Mays over Darryl Smith, but we are interested in both. It stinks what Cleveland did in handing out the worst contract of the day to a position of need for us. |
