Re: Around the NFL: Offseason edition 2.0
But - again - you dont gamble with potentially great young quarterbacks that have shown more than a glimpse of greatness on the field. If they didn't lock him up he would have been gone next year. Maybe it was a few mill over the current standard, but like Schneed said - whats that worth? One good linebacker?

Re: Around the NFL: Offseason edition 2.0
All good points...its a really big contract and a lot of guaranteed scrilla.
That division could be fun to watch this year, I think Jacksonville could be really good if the defense can stay healthy and improve. |
Re: Around the NFL: Offseason edition 2.0
For the second straight year Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain will be suspended to start the season. Sources tell Adam Schefter and myself that McClain will be suspended the first 10 games for violating the substance abuse policy. In March McClain was re-signed to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million but he could forfeit his $750,000 signing bonus.

Re: Around the NFL: Offseason edition 2.0
Man, if Sean Lee cannot stay healthy, they won't have any LBs left (between McClain and Hardy being out or gone). Jordan Reed is going to destroy these guys this year.

Both starting DEs are also suspended the first 4 games as well... Yet the talking douchbag heads are all picking the 'Boys to win the East. Really? Based solely on Romo? LOL... |

This kind of risky business is catching up with Jerrah and his team and I'm pretty happy about it. |
They aren't negotiating against any other team for his services. For some unknown reason Irsay kept stating he was blow the dome off with the deal...http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/colts-irsay-lucks-shocking-new-deal-will-have-20m-per-year-floor/...I just don't think this is the best way to get a deal done. I think Luck has potential...but he got serious questions too.
Its not like Indy is so talented they don't need possible space to spend on their own players or other pending free agents. I think Luck and his agent got the best possible deal from the Colts. Good for them. Plus the facts of the deal...look at deal, going value of relative to other QBs and their deals. Irsay was right, it blew the dome off other QB deal ..that's the best deal they coulda gotten? Good for Luck! Good luck to Indy! they paid that much for potential too, not necessarily for performance.
OK well at least we're not disagreeing on the interpretation of the market, which would be really crazy. We disagree on Luck the player. I saw last year as a complete aberration thanks to playing with way more pain than he let on, he was really hurt. He is definitely capable of elevating a moribund team when he's fully healthy, and any improvements in that offensive line at all and he'll be back to hitting Hilton for TD after TD. I'd love to be in a fantasy league with you this year, one more team owner willing to pass on Luck. |

He was very good for them. Now we just need somebody to give Sean Lee a concussion, then it doesn't matter what Zeke Elliott does because they won't be able to stop us at all. |
Thanks for the info - looks like he would most certainly have been scooped up. They did the right thing by ensuring he did not.
That sales deal is coming to fruition btw, and turned out to be even bigger than I thought. Dont know if it would put a dent in Lucks paycheck but it should buy me quite a few trips down I95 for some home games. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
:httr: |

schneed, the cowboys now have 3 players suspended. what does that do to their cap? is it just like nothing happened?

Re: Around the NFL: Offseason edition 2.0
Great question, this gets to useful specifics. He was signed through this upcoming season at $16M, but would have been a free agent in 2017.
According to OvertheCap, here is the projected cap room by team in 2017. I bolded the ones that are QB needy: Buccaneers 62,557,050 - Winston would not stop you from signing luck Patriots 62,426,481 Broncos 59,239,449 Cardinals 56,230,817 Bears 54,634,333 Steelers 52,367,705 Panthers 48,671,301 49ers 44,841,486 Browns 44,673,390 Raiders 44,387,278 Colts 42,205,426 Bengals 41,059,865 Titans 40,579,159 Redskins 40,574,496 Lions 39,130,414 Saints 38,993,067 Brees is also FA in 2017 Seahawks 33,706,790 Bills 32,486,952 Vikings 31,849,040 Falcons 31,583,760 Rams 31,348,342 Chargers 26,836,303 Packers 24,708,254 You don't think John Elway would pay ANYTHING to get Andrew Luck, with that much free space in 2017? Luck held every card in the fucking deck. The Colts were held hostage, they had no choice.
I am not nearly as sold on Winston as I am on Carr in Oakland. I would not have him on the list. |

Probably right. If I were the Raiders and had $60M in cap space instead of $44M, I might go for Luck over Carr. But at $44M, and Carr being on a pretty good arc, you're probably right. |

At the mere mention of his name, other teams just pee their pants and go home. When he walks onto the field, victory is assured each and every time ... ... until he stumbles during warm-ups and his collar bone spontaneously snaps into sixteen pieces while his surgically repaired back has seven vertebrae pop out alignment. |
