Re: The coordinators

Here's something I find interesting: we are a PRETTY good pass blocking offensive line. Maybe top five? How is it that with all that talent we just suck ass at run blocking? Scheme, talent, all of the above?
In fact most of the time I'll take a top D over a top O. Look at how the Panthers got handled in the SB last year.
I totally agree but I think the way our team is built right now they are hoping our defense can just be good enough to win games, rather than be that dominant d that you can ride to a title. I sure wouldn't mind having one but I don't see it happening.

I was going through the Profootball focus grades for the Oline...our 3 studs (silverblunted, Schreff and Moses) mostly all consistent with run and pass block. Louvao sucked at both but better run block.

But the real red flag for me was Spencer Long. He graded out as one of the best the pass blockers at Center. Guess what? One of the worst in the league at Run blocking. He was borderline terrible.

It needs to be addressed.

Re: The coordinators

Damn, that kind of sucks. So would you rather get someone mediocre at everything? I just think it would be tough to have top five at both run and pass across the board. How do other lines in the NFCE compare in run blocking?

I just think Long needs to be coached up, stronger and someone needs to be brought into challenge him. Run game must be improved.

Lauvao aka "Roller Skates" needs to hands down go.

I didn't look at the others olines, maybe get a chance tonight. And too "mediocre at everything"......being a Skins fan, my expectations is HOF baller at every position, even the kicker and punter. If not, see ya. :food-smil
I agree.

Overall this season I was okay with the effort by the guys on defense.

At times the lack of effort by the offense wasn't acceptable. That was evident in the run game.

I'm not sure what part of it falls on the coordinators. Sometimes you also need a guy in the locker room that brings the better out of his teammates. Not sure we have that in the offense. As weak as he looked sometimes, Compton might be that guy for the defense.
Compton may be a fiery guy. I dont know, but he sucks. He cannot be a starter.

Hahaha, I expect nothing less than baller-ness. Do you know if Koundijo had enough snaps to get graded? I wonder how his run blocking was.

Kujo didn't grade well anywhere. Nsekhe, Sullivan, Kory L all graded well for backups.

Yikes. Cool, thanks for checking...

Kory L might grade well, but that L in his last name isn't the only L he's been taking. If he doesn't retire we should move on.

I like him and the fact he worked his way up from nothing, but think we could use an upgrade. Foster was ballin' yesterday but I think either of them could be replaced. The athleticism needs an upgrade. Find our next Fletcher. But I am getting ahead of myself, I think both safeties and defensive line are bigger needs. Especially if Baker wants a big deal and we won't give it to him.

It's funny you mentioned Spencer Long. I remember seeing him on the play (I think where he got hurt) in Arizona where a counter run play was called. Long had the presence of mind to not only pull and block his assigned guy, but also chip another defender that freed Kelly for a long run. I thought to myself, "This is one thing I used to see on a regular basis with the Hogs!" Not saying Long is hog material, but how many linemen have that presence of mind to not only get their assigned guy blocked but to also help out and chip another defender at the same time? It seems like in recent years, we've seen (too often) guys who can't even get their assigned guys blocked correctly, let alone have the presence of mind to take care of their assignment and help out with getting other guys blocked as well. Or maybe I just haven't been paying enough attention?

Wil seemed to play worse as the season went on...Damn he missed a huge tackle on 3rd down which lead the big pass play at the end of the game the other day.

Long is a solid guy, but he has some room for improvement. Ive seen him get pushed back a lot on run blocking. Him and Luavao getting collapsed inside aint gonna cut it. Needs to get fixed.

I wouldn't mind an upgrade for Long but he's not tops on the priority list. Lauvao needs to be replaced first and then if there's an upgrade available they will look at center. If not then stick with Long another year and hope he gets stronger and works on his game.
