Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
It seems Jerry is finalizing things with his new puppet; OC Brian Shottenheimer.
Good choice for Jets, especially if Jets hire our assistant GM Lance Newmark. Of course there biggest decision is what to do at QB. They need move on Rodgers and all the players, Rodgers made them sign
Even if they sign Lance Newmark he'll still be taking orders from Woody Johnson's 15 year old son. I wish Peters/Quinn would talk to Newmark about waiting for a good opportunity to come along, not the first one. |
Almost? In 24 years we never did. I think it is impossible. Jets and Browns are doomed. Cowboys increasingly appear to be as well (he said gleefully).
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Peyton Manning with the Colts is the only real example I can think of, though Irsay may not be quite as bad as the Snyders and Woody Johnsons of the world. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Liam Coen the Bucs OC is negotiating to be Jags head coach. He dropped out and agreed to an extension with Bucs but after Jags fired their gm, they called him again.
Bucs can’t reach him. He’ll probably be named coach tomorrow. Well, Jags did something right. |

Liam Coen informed Bucs he’s taking Jags job.

I'd also be concerned if I was the new GM, that they employed the coach before me. OK if they get someone Coen has a synergy with it can work out, but how many times have we seen this scenario work? |
Jags owner Shad Khan finally did something right by firing their gm Trent Baalke. Keeping Trent was hurting him this cycle and the last one.
Khan gotta be a dumbass, how many times did credible candidates turn down the job before he realized Baalke is universally disliked. Also Coen is looking grimy in this ordeal for doing the Bucs dirty like that. I get why he did it but just be honest about it. Nobody would like it but they'd still respect you for being honest. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
The reason Jags couldn’t reach Coen was he was at the hospital for his son but he did tell Bucs when they finally talked, he taking to Jags.

Pete Carroll to the Raiders, didn’t see that one coming

After losing out on Ben Johnson; this was probably the best Tom could do. A veteran coach in a very tough division ; is probably what they needed. Given his age, probably only a 3-4 year gig. Hopefully Pete grooms a couple of Potential successors. Pats- Hire Former Titans coach, Mike Vrabel Bears- Hire Lions OC Ben Johnson Jets- Hire Lions DC Aaron Glenn Jags- Hire Bucs OC Liam Coen Raiders- Hire former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll Cowboys- Saints- |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Carroll to the Raiders should be interesting. I always felt he never got enough credit for how good of a coach he is winning a college title and NFL. He's got a ton of experience and good defensively. Seattle just wanted a change when they parted ways.
I do have respect for guys in their 70s like Belichick and Carroll that refuse to retire and love the game too much so choose to coach. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Carroll can make them competitive again, as long a he doesn't have to put up with ownership BS. He always seemed to have control in Seattle.
Saints job looks like the poisoned chalice. With their cap hell, probably not a surprise. |

Wisely we refused. Their qb situation is not good. Have no clue what their plans are at qb considering draft isn't good for them and fa will have a lot of older, expensive options. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching/gm carousel
Slowik fired, does he go to Dallas or NO or take time off?
