Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
If we were to cut Trent and another team picked him up would we get a compensatory pick for him?
Not saying we should do that, just asking the question.
No. If you release a player you get no comp picks. The player only helps you in the comp pick formula if he plays out his entire contract with you, and then leaves in FA. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
There are 188 days til the season begins, I may say this 100 more times before then. It is nice to see no brainer and common sense football decisions being made by the Front Office and RR.
In a parallel universe Redskins fans are still screaming at BA to release Jordan Reed, Paul Richardson, and let TW seek a trade, while dreading what horror their new (non RR) coach will bring with him. #HTTR_Prime |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
A 3rd or higher and let's move the fuck on. Bye Felicia.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
.... and enough cap saved to sign Hooper..... so picks plus Hooper for TW, I like that

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I'm still not trading him for peanuts. If no 2nd rounder (at least) then he stays. He really has no leverage here. I'm sure they are just wanting him to see for himself that the market for his services isn't as great as he may have thought.

IF he can find a deal the Redskins will agree to. I suppose he could hold out if not, but that definitely wouldn't be to his benefit. |

I assume no one is going to give up a high pick plus $$$ contract for Trent. Then if the Redskins refuse to release him it could be a major distraction. It could be 2019 again. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Agree, if u cant get a 2nd or a 3rd / player then let his ass stay right here
|
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
What does he do if no one wants to trade for him and extended for big money? Will he sit out or show up and play?
|
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
The Browns will explore a trade per Mary kay cabot Browns insider.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Can't see them giving up the #10 for him though. More likely a package of lower round picks or maybe a player swap/combo.
|
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Thank god. It is just so damn refreshing to see a front office being run the right way. No more bullshit vindictiveness and pettiness. Let's get that 2nd rounder hopefully and move on.

It could be 2019 again.
No it's not, because TW can't try to say it's the team's fault. If he stays out against his contract, the NFLPA and the league would not come to his defense. But mostly his agent has to do his job and find out what is out there for his client and tell him to make a decision. Once TW knows what an open market deal is like, then it's on him 100% |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
You trade him for whatever you can . A 3rd in 2020 , and a 4th in 2021 . We weren't winning with him , he wasn't playing last year ......... trade his ass and get some picks for him . As soon as that happens , ship Dunbar too , build draft pics now , in 2 or three years , you have a strong core to build around .

Sadly at this point if someone offers a second rounder, you take it immediately

JP Finley reports the Skins are looking for a 2020 2nd round pick. |

No way I trade him for "whatever I can". I'm looking at a 2nd round pick this year as the starting point of any negotiation...that's the minimum. If you can't give me that, go pound sand... |

Sounds about right. I don't even care that we failed to move him earlier, let's get this shit over with. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
If we get a 2nd for him, we can draft a LT in that round and be fine, it's a good tackle class
|
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I would approach teams like the Browns, Bucs, Vikings, offer Williams for Njoku and a 3rd or OJ Howard similar deal or Kyle Rudolph similar deal, maybe a 4th if a 3rd is too steep.
|

Agree O.J Howard and a draft pick would be great. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I'd prefer Njoku and a 3rd but I'm not sure the Browns wouldn't consider that steep. Then again they can draft his replacement and get 2-4 good years out of TW so maybe they'd be OK with it.
Not sure about the Buccs and Howard. If they do replace Winston they will want a good TE target for the new guy to be comfortable with, especially if they want to attract a good FA like say Rivers. I think Rudolph is capable but maybe on the decline. Most of Reeds yards came with Cousins throwing to him, and Rudolph hasn't seen the same kind of production since Cousins went to there. I'd aim higher in any FA/trade deal. |

Even Brate and a 3rd will be fine at this point, I don't want Njoku, dude is like Reed made of glass |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Broncos talking heads are all giddy about TW being on the trading block. I can see Denver giving up their 2nd round pick fir him, maybe more than that.

I think Denver and Cleveland are ideal suitors for Trent. They have both the need and the cap space Tampa Bay, Jets and Colts...also teams to watch. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I don't want OJ Howard. He has underachieved and been often injured. The Browns seems like he most logical choice to get a deal done. They wanted him last year.
|
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I think the sticking point will be how much a potential trading partner is willing to pay Trent on a contract extension, more than what draft capital they are willing to part with. He may get a big dose of reality here in the coming days.

His number (per year) will probably go down just to get out of town...but it really all about the guarantee at his age. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Im trying to figure out the cap ramifications if TW is not traded and he doesnt report.
Does his 14.5 or just the 2M option or none count against the cap? Ive read we can fine him 30k per day missed in TC then with hold each weekly pay check as he misses the weeks, one week at a time. -------------------------------- “Trent is excited to resume his Pro Bowl career with a team interested in a player of his stature,” Williams’ agent, Vincent Taylor, told Ben Standig of TheAthletic.com. “We really appreciate and respect [owner] Dan Snyder for the chance to seek another opportunity. “This isn’t about a contract, but time for a change of scenery.” https://sports.yahoo.com/trent-williams-agent-isn-t-235359019.html Cool Mr. Agent, its not about the money so now the hurdle of finding a team that will trade assets and give TW a new LTD is off the table!! hell yeah! Im taking your word for it guy. Now, per his agent, its just about finding a new team willing to give up a 2nd R! That should make getting a 2R much easier if the new team also doesnt have to pay him 4/80/50 |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Unlikely but what about a straight swap with the Broncos for Justin Simmons? We need a S and we can then concentrate on OL, LB, WR and CB in FA & the draft.

He will demand top dollar...I don't want 2 safeties to be wrapped up in the two highest players on defense. We already overpaid a minimum-impact play at SS. |
