Re: Jerome Mathis signed
Neet to see if he can catch and maybe place him opposite Moss on go routes.

Re: Jerome Mathis signed
Remember the 05 draft & a no. of people here as I recall were talking him up as a mid round pick to look out for? (I haven't done a search yet, but I remember talking about his 4.29 speed if memory serves me correctly)
Now, the guy is having a kid, which could mature him the way it did w/ST, and he's moving close to home where he'll hopefully have some support. Add to that his contract is a 1 yr. no bonuse vet. min deal & what you have is a guy w/every bit of motivation to play well & keep things in order. If he can't get it done this year he'll likely never make it. I don't like the sound of him per se, but the deal he signed makes sense & if he can become the main kr w/out trouble off field then it's a steal. If we continue at this rate, the WP should declare this the offseason of the vet minimum! |
Re: Jerome Mathis signed
I'm on Mathis' side. I think he will produce and have a great season. Will be hard to re-sign him next year. he'll be like Josh Cribbs.

"Belated"??? Are you serious? We do have the smartest fans! |
Re: Jerome Mathis signed
His signing leads me to believe that Betts will be traded.Rock move to the backup role,Mason as the 3rd and Mathis on ST.They have something going on,i dont know if it is to gain more picks to get younger,of if there is a trade in the works.Williams of Detroit is looking good right now. They need a RB.

He played good 2 years ago in that one game against the Rams, ran for like 100 yards when Betts was out. |

Meanwhile Betts filled in and ran for over 1000 yards in just 7 starts in 2006. I trust him a heck of a lot more. |

He has always run well when asked to step in for an injured player but that has come just a few times in his career. |

I trust him a heck of a lot more.[/quote]Betts ran really well in 2006, but that seems to have been an aberration from the rest of his career. I'm all for giving him enough carries to get him back on track in 2008, but only in 2006 and 2003 was he a valuable ball carrier for us. Rock on the other hand, has been excellent in very limited time. As the primary backup, that time would remain limited. I can understand the desire to keep Betts on the roster so if Portis goes down, Rock doesn't have to carry the load, but remember that prior to 2006, this team had enough faith in Ladell Betts to deal two mid round picks for TJ Duckett. Obviously Betts>Duckett, but he really has to show that 2006 wasn't a fluke this year, or I doubt he will be back in 2009. |

Outside of that one big game in 2005 for Rock his numbers are really nothing special. |
