- If Hall works out, we can consider keeping him; if he leaves for bigger $$ we get a compensatory pick - If Hall doesn't work out, he's still an improvement over Torrence or Tryon
2 points. Though it is possible to get a compensatory pick for Hall, that completely depend on the value of his future contract value AND his playing time....therefore, he'd pretty much have to start from here on out in order for us to expect any picks for him. Other point, how can you possible state he is automatically better than Torrence?, Hall has been burned in far greater volume than Torrence. Granted, he was starting and wasnt playing nickle, but you cant automatically say he'll be better. Agreed, that he absolutely SHOULD play better, cause hes got excellent athletic ability. |

Now he's coming to a better team, with the opportunity to prove himself. We're not asking Hall to be the number 1 corner, just to add depth to our DB group. Torrence was an average player at best, whereas Hall is a very talented. Besides, my whole point was that this is another low risk acquisition by the Redskins, that could turn out to be a good situation for the team. |

Even when the contract value is negligible, there is still an opportunity cost of having underachieving players on the roster. |

I figured to give the 2006 MVP a chance, but he hasn't showed up for us since his signing. Once Betts is healthy, or at the end of the season, I would hold on to Alexander and try to shop him around for maybe a 3rd/4th round pick. Or just cut him, either way. Portis/Betts/Cartwright is all that we need. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Maybe trade him to the Broncos, they need a RB bad!

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
This doesn't inspire much confidence...
After the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Oakland Raiders a week ago, former Falcon DeAngelo Hall waited in the tunnel for one of his former teammates — not to exchange pleasantries, but to fight. Profootballtalk.com, citing a report on an Atlanta radio station, said Hall waited to fight an unnamed Falcon. Falcons linebacker Keith Brooking recently mentioned the incident during a spot with Buck and Kincade on 680 The Fan in Atlanta. Here's what Brooking said, without naming the former teammate in question. "One of our ex-players, sitting there in the tunnel, waiting on us to come through the halftime to pick a fight with one of my teammates," Brooking said. "I'm just sitting there as I'm going to the locker room thinking, ‘Geez, man, I mean, I'm so glad we're removed from all that mess.' You know, because of the camaraderie that we have as a team from a players standpoint, the relationships we've developed with our coaches. I mean, it's a great working relationship." |

Kiffin told Cerrato that he thought Hall had been humbled and would be a good fit. I hope he's right. As much as he got burned in Oakland, he should be.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
This is real encouraging:
In his eight games in Oakland, Hall was beaten 40 times for 552 yards on 66 passes thrown his way, according to data compiled by STATS. He gave up more yards than any defender this season and was tied for third worst in catches allowed.
Two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Hall signs with Redskins |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Where's the on-field downside here? He's 25, 2 years removed from back to back Pro Bowl seasons, played under one of the WORST coaches in NFL history in Bobby Petrino-even Warrick Dunn had problems with Petrino, nuff said-and then the worst organization in the league so I'm willing to give him a clean slate.
Off the field, Fletcher, Springs, Campbell and other locker room leaders won't let him become a problem. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
The more I think about Hall the more I agree with you.
Notice: in the past few weeks folks on the Warpath have discussed strategies for the draft/free agency for next year. Various positions of need have been discussed: offensive line defensive line linebacker cornerback If Hall works out, you can scratch cornerback off the list. Call it "early free agency." This could make the upcoming offseason more productive, as we can focus on other needs. If Hall doesn't work out, we turn him loose in the winter, and have lost little. |
