Re: 2009 Free Agents

The texans & Jags just released some fairly big names.:

NFL Football Teams, Scores, Stats, News, Standings, Rumors - National Football League - ESPN

I liked Jerry Porter until his bust year in J'ville, but maybe his hamstring is fully healed now. I doubt Zorn & Vinny will try & sign him, but I'm sure they'll look into it.

The guys that might be cheap & helpful are Greenwood & Florence. Not saying any of these guys is a priority, or that the Skins will sign them, but based on these cuts & some others, it looks to be a fairly flooded market for free agents.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

Jerry Porter is universally hated in every locker room he enters. TO gets the pub, but everything I've heard says JP is much worse.

Wasn't Florence a guy that was repeatedly rumored to be here last off-season?

Re: 2009 Free Agents

I would put my typical "I am not suggesting for x-player to come to the Redskins", but that tends to be a futile attempt. But anyway, I just saw this on ESPN and thought to myself, what a pity that these talented receivers (Boldin, Burress, and CJ) have such character issues. I wonder if any of these receivers will get traded.

While Burress & CJ's character issues are well documented, I don't believe Boldin has any character problems (unless I'm missing something). The only issue Boldin has is wanting to get a new contract. I know teammates will protect each other in the media, but Larry Fitzgerald's statements of reworking his contract and his statements on the sideline at the Pro Bowl seem to be a true endorsement of Boldin.

P.S. While he's a very good WR, I don't see him coming here, nor am I suggesting the Skins pursue him.

I guess some teams would see Boldin's demand for a contract as a character issue, but you are correct Burress and CJ are the ones with the character issues. I must say though that I think with Fitz's plea and willingness to restructure his contract, Boldin is going to come out as the bad guy if he doesn't stay with AZ. Well I'm sure the media will portray him that way.

The Falcons are expected to release WLB Keith Brooking before February 23, when he is due a $1 million roster bonus.
SLBs Michael Boley and Coy Wire are also free agents. Feb. 12 - 11:56 am et

Keith Brooking or Michael Boley, would be make a good stap gap for 1-2yrs at SLB once
Marcus Washington is released..Picking up an OLB like Mckenzie or Freeman in the 3rd round makes sense

Keith Brooking would either be our latest version of Randall Godfrey or Jessie Armstead. Either way he's definitely the type of guy that wouldn't surprise me should we sign him.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

I think i posed this question in another thread, but i cant find it so i apologize if its already been answered...

Ive seen some discussion that we should move Jansen to guard this year and get a new RT in free agency or the draft. I guess the idea is that

1) Jansens going to be on the roster making alot of money, so we might as well get some use out of him.
2) Jansen would be able to prolong his career at guard
3) We wouldnt have to look to free agency or the draft to sign a new guard.

But my question is, didnt we already try to put Jansen at guard before and it was a miserable failure? Didnt we find that he couldnt adjust to playing on the inside?

Thanks.

I'd be all for moving him to left guard. Especially after hearing that Bugel isn't all that high on Rinehart.

I don't think they have tried it before. They did try him as the backup center last year.

I think that was Todd Wade.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

you're right - it was wade. wed be much better off moving jansen to guard as opposed to paying him over 6 million to be a backup tackle.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

The way Buges talks, Jansens injuries and age are catching up to him. He said he never was 100% last year and hopes he'll be better this year. I hope he's tried at guard but unfortunately if he doesn't get healthier we may have seen the last of Jansen in a starting role.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

Jansen is still smallish compared to today's massive guards but he actually brings a little more mass to the line than Kendell. His struggle at tackle has looked to more in lateral movement than anything - he's still quite strong when run blocking - so I'd like to think working in the interior where there's less space for defenders to beat him will be to his advantage. Anyway, i like the thinking of mr bighair... let's get what we can from him at the guard position. He knows our schemes through and through.

What do people think about Bart Scott? He probably will go to a 3-4 defense, but I'm curious to know what people would think about him coming here.
