Re: Around the NFL...Week 2 Style!
I cant think of a worse Secondary or tackling defense right now than ours.

Re: Around the NFL...Week 2 Style!
I think at the beginning of TC when Cofield and Rak were asked about how good this defense could be, when they said "No reason to not be a top 5 defense" they meant "No reason to not be a bottom 5 defense."

Don't forget the linebackers. They deserve some of the credit for being a terrible tackling team. |

There really isn't a reason this defense could be Top 5 - if they played disciplined football and tackled. Our front seven has good talent, as good or better 2/3's of the teams out there (Rak, Kerrigan, Riley, Cofield). Bowen and Golston are both solid talent-wise and are legitimate starters (London no longer has the talent and is the obvious weak link). From a purely talent perspective, other than Doughty, our DB's are servicable to average starters. No pro-bowlers, but speed, athleticism and enough ball skills to play in the league. If not on our roster, they would be either starting or first man-up on a significant number of NFL rosters. What they lack is assignment discipline and tackling. Folks are clearly missing assignments and, just as clearly, missing tackles. Fix those things and they could be a top 5 defense (maybe). At the same time, playing fundamentally sound football is, well, fundamental to a top defense and it is, alas, not fundamental to the make-up of this D. |

We can be proud of our alum, Brandon Lloyd, for making a zombie movie.

Re: Around the NFL...Week 2 Style!
Doubt if anyone saw the dallas game.I recorded the 30 min thing from direct tv.In the middle of watching it.Seems like almost every other game I get to see everyone is running the pistol and being very successful when they do.I didnt see dallas run it,but kc used it a lot.Alex Smith looked fearless,he ran it 8 times for 57 yards.Dallas pass rush was ferocious but kc was using 3 step drop most of the time and Smith stood in the pocket with dallas players flying around him and delivered the ball.
KC's and dallas defense look so much better at tackling than ours its ridiculous. Its going to take another high profile qb (maybe 2}to get seriously injured before teams are afraid to use it for fear of losing their qb. Us,seattle and Frisco all showed everyone how good the pistol offense can work and now a lot of teams are incorporating it. The difference between us and every other team in the league using it is EVERYBODY in the league knows were afraid to run RG3 while every other team is not because they dont have a qb coming off major knee surgery, let alone after 8 months. I am in no way saying the skins should run Rg3 out of the pistol, the scrutiny on us if we did it is totally different from every other team in the league, and if something were to happen to Rg3 on a designed run play Sportscenter might blow up they'd be so excited. I dont know what the answer is for the skins,I just hope the shanny's can figure it out quick. Besides all the other concerns I have about the team is,if we dont turn it around before the bye and we go 0-4,Mike might be so concerned about losing his job that he is no longer concerned with RG3's health and throws him to the lions.Maybe Rg3 survives it and maybe he doesnt, just glad we have Cousins on the team. I was not happy when Shanny drafted Cousins but I have to give him credit for it now. |
