Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
I would pass on desean, unless the money was skins friendly (which I doubt)
his addition would be a luxury, not a need. im not so much worried about the off field stuff as i am with allocating too much money on receiver. even if his cap hit was 5-6 this year, id guess his average salary would be end up near 10 mil per. we have rg3, trent, rak, kerrigan to re-sign in the next few years.
While we do have to resign Trent, his salary is already high. This year his cap number is 11 mil and next year, its over 14 mil. We already have the cap space available to resign Trent built into his current cap numbers. In fact, we could resign Trent today, and have lower cap numbers this year and next. Orakpo is very similar with this year only, he is already counting over 11 mil. Its the other 2 that needs to be worried about. |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
I'm torn on this. On one hand, he would be a great asset on the field for our team. On the other, we aren't exactly the type of environment that allows a moody player with attitude issues to succeed. Way too many times that has burnt us in the past.
Idk, I guess I would sign him, but only for a team friendly contract that allows us to easily cut ties once his attitude becomes a distraction for the team. Usually when we mix our favorite team and those kinds of players, the question isn't if he'll mess something up, but when. I definitely wouldn't give him 10 million a year, but I would give him somewhere between 5-7 mil per. But seeing as how he'll have his pick of suitors, and given the fact that his "pay me" attitude is one in a long list of reasons why the Eagles cut him, I doubt we will be in the running for whatever team he picks. Only way I see us signing him is if he takes a smaller deal just to stick it to the Eagles twice a year. |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Was it last year or the year before that DJ wouldnt speak with his oc? I forget...I do remember they had to have another player speak to the coach for him because he wouldnt.
To play devils advocate to my not wanting him...he is a legitimate threat, and in addition it would be nice to have the inside track on chip Kelly's offense. I like what he does on the field (when he wants to, but he can honestly act like one of those kids on my super sweet 16 party, or whatever). And im not saying anything about the gang talk..because, honestly, I could care less about that. Regardless, though...if we do sign him..ill be hoping/rooting for triple digit yardage game in and game out from him, because my love for the skins trumps my dislike for DJ by light years. HAIL! |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
We should definitely sign him. No question about it. He's still relatively young, and when was the last time the Redskins had a bona-fide Pro-Bowl caliber WR? Do it.
One of the best Redskin free agent picks ever was Gary Clark. USFL cast off from JMU. Petulant, abrasive, selfish, hard to deal with. That's why coaches are paid the big dollars. They need to know how to manage people. Gibbs was the master at it. If we sign Jackson hopefully Gruden can follow in those footsteps and bring the best out in Jackson.
I'm sorry but Gary was nothing like Jackson, Gary was arrogant but was a team player, didn't act selfish, was a serious competitor, Gibbs would have cut his ass. My best friend played hoops against Gary at JMU, almost got in a fight with him, off the court was cool, my buddy and roommate tutored Charles Haley. |
You never can predict how things fall out, but on paper it seems that both Gruden and Sean McVay are players coaches that seem to get along with the players... May work better, or may not.. |

I hope so. My motto is hope for sunshine, but bring an umbrella....even though I dont even own an umbrella..which is a metaphor wrapped in an enigma.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Please god let this happen. Would give us the vertical threat we need opposite garcon and would free us up a little bit in the draft.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Line up the ESPN clerical pool and see if he can pass the conditioning test, then we'll talk.......

Gruden wants his Hawkins type player so his eyes lit up when DJax was available so it will not surprise me if he signs tomorrow with us. DJax wants to payback Philly and trust me Iggles fans do not want to face him twice a year.

No they don't. Every one of my friends / family is SAHKING at the notion of him suiting up in B & G |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
I would much rather draft a WR like Kelvin Benjamin........DJax can boost our offense and he may be a great teammate but it's a high risk/high reward with him...... we will know by tomorrow evening if he signs with us or not....

If we draft a WR it likely has to be in the 2nd or 3rd round and we could get a S and RT in those spots. Probably starters or close to starting ability. DJax would really open the draft to our needs. |

I don't mind drafting another WR. But we've done that and missed so many times, and it takes 2-3 years to develop / find out what you have.. In fact, in 2008, we drafted Devin Thomas and Fred Davis BEFORE Desean Jackson in the second round. And they aren't playing any more.. Hankerson as well has underperformed to date. In comparison Djax had two 100 yard outings in his first two games alone. I'm much more confident in DJax on the field than a 2nd round rookie. |
