They definitely should try to trade him. And every team should say no. That contract is an albatross. He simply isn't good enough to take up that much cap space, especially if you have to give up pick(s) to get him. Very similar to Carr in that regards, imo.
Someone like the Colts would probably listen.

It only takes 1 team. And Irsay is a wildcard. So who knows. But if it was my team, I wouldn't want that trade.

Not my top choice. Just saying if that's the route the team is taking, I'd take Lamar over trading tons of picks for someone that Jackson is just as good as, if not better. As of now, Jackson is the only big time QB that will be a FA. Possibly Carr, if no one trades for that contract. Jackson > Carr imo. So I'll take Jackson in that option.

The problem with Lamar is he's only a big threat when he's healthy and he can run - and he hasn't finished a season healthy in some time. Once his legs are shot and he will have to rely on being a pure passer he is gonna fall off and his contract is gonna be an albatross.

I think it was Grant Paulson who said yesterday pff had Lamar passer ranking as 19th and then lower 20s the last two years. He’s fools gold as a passer. So I agree
If people are willing to spend money on go no where veterans like Brissett or Dalton, what about Cooper Rush? Are we saying we don’t want to apply pressure to Howell?
I think we definitely want to apply pressure to Howell, which is why my #1 course of action would be to bring in a Veteran FA QB.

Cooper Rush has been in the league for 5 years, but he doesn't have many more starts than Howell at this point. I'm not counting anyone out - as far as coming in and competing and pushing Howell, but I don't think Cooper would be near the top of my list. Surely not above guys like Brissett, Dalton, Bridgewater, Mayfield...

If you bring in Carr, L Jackson, Garappolo, G SMith...then you aren't pushing Howell. He would then be your backup. I hope they don't do this, but I'm assuming all options are on the table.

Doubt Dalton would wanna come back. The last time he was here he almost went home without his head.

Those weren't really suggestions. I was just saying that Cooper would be even lower on my list than those guys. The fact is though, if they want someone who will really push Howell and/or be a competent backup - someone who can come in in a pinch and get you a W, then they will have to pay for that guy.

Hell, Heinicke's market value according to Spotrac is $19.8M annual average salary. Dalton and Brissett are in the $6-7M range.

Re: 2023 Divisional Round Thread

I saw that too, and I can't believe someone will pay him $10M, let alone near 20. Maybe they will but it better not be us! I've always liked Brissett, if only as a bridge QB. Don't love the idea of him as the starting QB unless Howell bombs in camp, but he'd make a more than adequate backup.

Haha, yep, add 1 more step for half the media jumping on their jockstraps, and that's 100% accurate.
