I always thought the word traced it's origins back to the root word "doldrum". The word took on similiar meaning but specifically meant that you must be bored while sitting outside in a sunny area.

I'm there with you, but not Diamond. (I am huge fan of Jim Croce too)
My dentist was obsessed with Diamond and played it constantly...very bad experiences. I have associated diamond with pain, so I can't stand to listen to him. Being a Red Sox fan, it disturbs me that they play sweet caroline during the games. Just stick to dirty water by the standels.
