I just don't want the excuse when setback happens, slow recovery, etc. Then for folks to be like "well what did you expect?" I just expect us to have a plan b. I just wonder from a mental aspect...no saying AS is mentally weak...but I think that's apart a massive injury that's over looked. When CT cameback from injury this year, there was a little bit of that...learning to trust your body again.[/quote] I think with CT is different because he is always going to get hit. My concern with Alex, provided everything goes well, is how mobile he would be after this injury. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
It's not like the guy was lighting it up. I hope he comes back but not as starter. You can already hear w/ passive words that the guys on the team prefer Colt.
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Yeah part of the Colt support is simply because he’s the guy now so let’s get behind him. I mean Jordan Reed was talking about how he has a cannon arm, come on now.

Well most of the guys playing are guys that typically practice with Colt and not the first team. Regardless, it is good to see the team rally around Colt. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Both QBs are on the wrong side of 30.
You need to find a young talented QB regardless of what happens to AS. You can win with a young QB if you put them in the right system with the right players(Mahomes, Goff, Trubisky). Guys relax. Bruce Allen isn't done fingerblasting us yet. Lets wait and see what bullshit he pulls this offseason. |

Also, my feeling is that the draft was mostly Doug and Jay. It seems that Allen is just involved in any major move, but most of the day-to-day/routine move is mostly Doug and Jay. |

I just don't get how "horrible" this trade was, given the situation the team was in when it happened. I mean at least we didn't give up $87 million guaranteed to be 5-4-1, nor are we 4-6 right now. |

And it's not like Fuller has been lighting it up in KC. As much as people want to deny it, a lot of what is happening this season has to do again with players not being healthy in the preseason and people getting hurt during the season. I feel that previous Redskins teams would have fallen apart already with what the team has gone through. We can potentially go to the playoffs with a whole bunch of non-starters. |

This will handicap the Cap. Also, Fuller has played well after a bad start with KC...he's been solid. |

We gave up a 2nd and 4th rounder for McNabb, he was demoted to a 3rd stringer by the end of the season and we went 6-10. Going 6-4 with a ton of injuries to me is a slight improvement over that. I'm not saying it was a good trade or extension, it's just that it is not as bad as you make it out to be. |

I think the most frustrating thing with Bruce, Danny and the Front office with the Shanny's...they got 2 QB and paid a fucking ton of draft picks for them for a Coaching staff wanted neither of them. They didn't want McNabb and they didn't want RG3. Its pure incompetence. |

I give you that it wasn't looking good, but I don't think is fair to judge him on 10 games with a whole bunch of backups. I think the biggest mistake this FO has done recently, in terms of QB, is not getting rid of Cousins after the first franchise tag. It would have been an extremely unpopular move, but I feel that although the team would have suffer initially, it would have been better in the long run. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
IMO the reason the Smith and McNabb deals aren't comparable is because McNabb came to Washington fat, out of shape, and not really interested in playing/learning the system. Smith was none of those things. He arrived in shape and ready to play. So far the results weren't what were hoped for but IMO it wasn't for lack of effort.

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
The injury throws a serious wrench in the equation. Nobody can be blamed for that.

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Alex Smith was a good pick-up, I said it day 1 and still stick to it. He was the best option out there
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Where the Redskins really misjudged the situation is they didn't have the Chiefs talent on offense. Smith just isn't good enough to play with the average guys that we have and put points up and move the offense. Cousins stalled out in the red zone but at least he moved the offense for the most part. Smith can't and really didn't unless AP was running the ball. He needs elite playmakers and a running game where Cousins didn't. That is the difference in the two.

We'll see how Colt does these last 6 games. But if Colt plays really well, and clearly plays better than Smith, it's going to make the trade look even worse than it already does. |

The big difference has been RZ scoring, Kirk sucked at it because after his first read down there he would just eat the sack or throw it away. Alex moves around better and gets guys open. Before Sunday he had 9td and 0ints in the RZ. Very good. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Forget the stats, we are 6-3, if due to a horrific injury AS' tenure is done, then I have respect for him and the trade. We will never know how it might have played out through the season, and if we ended 9-7 looking at the playoffs with Smith as the yearlong starter, then it would have been a failed trade.
But he did exactly what everyone said he would do (except this past Sunday) which was not make mistakes, play for the time of possession/game manager wins and keep the team looking forward. No other qb we could have signed would have done that. All that said, if Colt does show he can run the offense effectively, and we go 5-2 or better, then that also will call the trade into question, because the team has to know exactly who Colt is after all these years. And we could have drafted a qb talent in the 3rd without raising eyebrows. |

Watching the injury on film , Watt had to look away.

Lol apologizing for what...colt and Alex Smith aren’t the answer at qb. Alex Smith trade and extention will haunt this team. Better use one of the first couple draft picks for a qb |

You know who is to blame is Bruce Allen and dan Snyder...we can roll call the qb decisions from these 2 from the last ten years and there is a clear path of poor decisions. Alex is a major disappointment this year...with the injury there is very little reason to believe his game will get better. It’s not logical to believe a guy coming off a major leg injury at 35 who has struggled to lead an offense...will wake up and lead this team effectively. It makes zero sense to believe that...none. So we need to deal with reality |

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
People will line up for the job. It is one of 32 in the world and ten will open this spring. The problem I have is firing him due to injuries. The bigger question is who do you go after. I start calling Michigan Monday morning.

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I’ll eat my crow. I was wrong about McCoy. Thought he would run the offense better than Smith. Thought he’d succeed. I was wrong and openly admit it.

Kudos to Smith, we won games because he was effective not turning the ball over and making just enough plays to win games. It appears we're screwed for at least next season though because his cap hit is too high to bring in someone else, unless we want to throw a rookie qb in there and have Smith be the backup. No vet can come here with the cap hit Smith carries next year. |

The salary cap will mean the team is forced to draft a QB and either use him next year or Colt /Alex until the rookie is ready. The real question is how much the Redskins will invest in draft pics to get a top notch QB draft pick. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Alex is a stand up guy, he could take a pay cut or even retire if he isn't able to play at his standard. Long ways to go on that.

If this is the start of the descent, we could be looking at a new coaching staff (hopefully FO too) for next year. I don't see any way Smith isn't on the roster next year though, there's absolutely no reason to put the amount of money he's owed on our dead cap in addition to paying another qb. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
The lack of not drafting a QB to groom this year is going to hurt, I suggest they find someone next year. It doesn’t have to be a 1st round pick, just someone with potential who can learn quickly.
