I guess I could see them drafting an O lineman since the O line is terrible.
Hate to break it to you but the O line probably is intact for 2012. Williams is locked in, Shanny loves Liechtenstieger, Montgomery has played well enough to return as a starter, Chester and Brown got long term deals this past offseason. O-line starters won't be a priority. Depth will be a focus though. |
Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
skins will finish 6-10 IMO and have the 9th pick
Beat NYJ and MIN |
IDK where u heard that but that is 100% Wrong
I'm not meaning "not happy" as in they will cut him bad not happy. I'm talking he's good but not awsome and recently injured. I could see them taking a QB. Doubtful but with the Rookie CAP they would have 2 really good QB's to choose from and play the best of the two. My scenerio is just as crazy as the people who think if the QB's we want are not available then we should just trade with the Rams for Bradford. What makes people think the Rams will trade him? Same with Rivers? I keep hearing how, again, if the QB we want are not available the Skins should make a play for Rivers. |
Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
I gotcha SB, and I'd give SD our 2nd rounder for Rivers

Allen's contracts so far all have given flexibility to the team to cut players w/out much accelerated cap $. I agree, depth will be a focus, but I wouldn't be surprised to see any O line position taken as early as the 2nd. At some point depth is competition for starting jobs. I think C would be the first spot to upgrade, but it will come down to who's available. Other than Williams I don't see anyone's job there being established by any means. I hope Hurt can improve a lot, I don't see Cook here next year. |
Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
There's a good chance that we'll be picking fifth at 5-11 with just Indianapolis, Carolina, St. Louis, and Minnesota picking ahead of us. After Luck goes first, two of those teams won't even entertain the thought of picking a QB, and the other, St. Louis, is still very tied to Bradford no matter what they decide to do. The Redskins are well positioned to be able to draft the best of the rest.
I see the logic to this however it's (always) difficult to determine if/when another team will trade up. I could easily see Carolina, St. Louis and/or Minn looking for a trade down scenario... |
Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
The only way the Redskins get Barkley in this senario is to trade up and it will cost next years number one at the minimum. The Browns have the advantage of having two number one's, in this upcoming draft.

A good (stats heavy) one from FO's Vince Verhei. ESPN Insider required:

Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
Remember last year when we thought Newton would definitely fall to 10? Yeah I'm starting to get skeptical of these guys that say Barkley will be around at 8. Lets just assume he's going around 2 or 3 via trade.

Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
I think it's pretty critical to get a pass catcher and a passer with the first two picks. That pass catcher can play any position. Yes, even tight end. Just the best available guy who can help the offense.

I would like to see us target one or 2 upgrades to the starters and make the current starters the depth that you are talking about. |

I think Barkley, Griffin, and Luck will all be gone by the sixth pick even if they call come out. It's very much worth looking at other names if we pick outside of the top six or seven. If you want to make a youtube cut-up of Nick Foles someday, I think people would be shocked at how good of a player he is compared to other guys like Tannehill, Cousins, Lindley, Jones etc. The way people talk about him as a late round pick, you wouldn't think he could make any throw with any amount of pressure on him. Except that he can. The other thing I like about Foles is how he uses his feet effectively. He's got Tom Brady's athleticism (or lack of), but still moves effectively. And while this may be an effect of his offense, he managed to be one of the toughest players to sack in college football (and one of the ten best passers) despite crappy receivers and two freshman tackles who couldn't block anything. Assuming the top guys are gone, I would just sit tight and take Foles with the first round pick, wherever that may be in the round. |

I think that would be a wise assumption. If Barkley comes out and either St. Louis or Minnesota are drafting second, then I think we'll have a shot at him via a trade up. It will cost a lot, so let's hope he's worth it if it happens. Of course, we also need to be prepared for Shanny and Kyle to fall in love with a 32 year-old backup QB who has bounced around the the CFL for the last ten years. The thought of those two picking our next QB scares me as much as anything else related to our QB situation. |
Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
Assuming he comes out i think RG3 ends up going higher then Barkley. And RG3 is the guy I would target...
|
Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
If everyone comes out, I think there will be six first round picks at the QB position. I am against trading up because I think the Redskins will have their pick of two or three first round QBs wherever they select. I think the probability says that there will certainly be a great quarterback when we pick, we just need to get a staff in place that can identify him.
