You and I have been together calling for QB quality. In fact, to give proper credit, you were there first.

But isn't the price awful steep? We don't have a first round pick until the next Presidential cycle is gearing up.
I think he could have tried to poach Alex Smith as a stopgap.

That would have been buying high, sure, and Smith isn't anyone's franchise quarterback, but it would have been a legit acquisition at the QB position that wouldn't have cost draft value and would have swung the leverage back to the Redskins.
I still think that relying on any free agent coming in for the redskins would be a big risk regardless. That's assuming that they would be able to even acquire one that was good enough.

With RGIII, we have hope. I'm trying to look at the bright side of giving up so many high picks. That's trading 2 Kerrigans and 1 Jarvis Jenkins. But at least the redskins made what was their biggest weakness into hopefully their biggest strength at the most important position in the nfl.
Yes, we have holes but a great QB makes a team better. Place some of the Patriots offensive playmakers on the Skins with Grossman at QB and see how great they do.
That's just the thing though. We're not getting a great QB. We're getting a great QB prospect. And a prospect needs his teammates to pick up some of the slack early in his career so he can pay it back on the back end.

To be clear, by the time we're talking about Griffin carrying us, you're talking 2016, 2017, 2018. Only one QB drafted by the Redskins since the merger made it that far into his career before being forced out of town.

In the mean time, what you KNOW you have in Griffin is a viable starter at the quarterback position. Which we've had in plenty of other years from Grossman to McNabb, Campbell, Brunell, Johnson, etc.

Shefter just said on SportsCenter what others have said here...

The Redskins still will fully pursue Peyton Manning.
Give it up. You didn't call anything because you did not say 3 #1's and a #2.

If your point was that Griffin would be expensive, many others said that, so why are you gloating?

Since you haven't gotten the point, let me say it in caps: DOUCHE.
I'm not a douche, but you're starting to form into one judging by how you handle things, to how other people on this board handle things, I want to talk about Mr. Griffin, you want to hound me about that. I'm remembering this for our next argument.

For now all I'm thinking is this
We still didn't give up as much as Ditka. Kinda depressing to know we will not have a draft for the next couple of years.
Arguably we gave up more than Ditka. Ditka gave up more picks but not 3 #1's and a #2. 6th round picks are almost throwaways. Even Herschel Walker didn't go for 3 #1's and a #2 as I recall it.
It's not like we traded a 2nd for TJ Duckett all over again.
Or traded picks for Jason Taylor for one year.
Agreed. Just a bit too reckless for my taste right now. Like I said, Griffin had better be solid gold. Forget clear #1 by 2014; we'd better be talking Pro Bowl in 2014.
For me I think RG3 will either be a mega bust or a mega star. I don't really see him being an average qb in the NFL. He will either be incredible at everything he does (which I think has a decent chance of happening) or he will be incredibly bad at everything he does. So if he's incredibly good, we might be talking about him being a Pro Bowler sooner than 2014. I expect the Shannies to put him in a position to succeed. For the price they paid he will be the day one starter, no questions asked.

I agree.
for 3 first rounders and a 2nd...do you think we could have gotten Drew Breese?..or any pro bowl QB out there?....I say ....possibly.
This guy is an unknown commodity...and yes...the skins paid way too much...I am bummed, but at least I am hopeful

The 2nd rounder this year is what stings a little for me. We will still have drafts just not 1st rounders can still build a team in the draft with 2nd-7th rounders.
No need to watch the first hour of the draft lol. Time to get the RG3 jersey, as soon as find out what number he is.
No - however you feel about this trade - after watching the redskins draft RGIII, it's time to start taking shots.

Now that it's official Robert Griffin III will be a Redskin, I'm very elated. I feel a since of satisfaction and I doubt seriously if RG3 will bust. He could make the pro bowl in his rookie season. But it's important that there's not an enormous amount of pressure on him. I just want to see him succeed.
