Re: Gun Control Thread- Should we?
May have been better phrased as 'can't physically discipline' not touch unless FD's on another cock snorting binge.
Just to add a little clarity to the sad topic, we live in the least violent times since records were started. Why do so many people think we live in incredibly violent times? I think there are a number of systematic biases, what I call "historical myopia" being one of them. The closer you get to the present, the better the records are, and I think this is a major distorter of our impressions of violence. We know about every massacre that has taken place close to the present, but the ones in the distant past are like trees falling in the forest with no one to hear them. S Pinker |

Having guns at schools could be answer to stop maximum damage but it doesn't address the damage that a lone wolf can cause. Plus, there is inherit danger that comes with having a gun in class rooms or school grounds. Statistics show that accidental deaths from guns increase many folds with the presence of a gun in a household compared to households that don't have guns. Arming teachers is the easy "solution" to a complex problem that deserves a real solution. How hard do you think it would be for an individual to acquire a high powered high capacity rifle and mow-down 1+ people at the NRA's head quarters? I can think of many ways with the help of high powered semi-automatic rifle. |

There is a reason why we don't sell RPGs over the counter. There is a reason why you can't legally own hand grenades. There is a reason why mass shooters prefer high powered rifles with high capacity magazines. There is a reason why M16 and M4 are standard military issues for US military personal. There is a reason why gorillas and warlords made the AK-47 the most popular rife on the planet. There is a reason why the purchase of ammonium and fertilizer require an agricultural license and are reported to authorities. When children are being murdered with rifles we have crossed from the realm of hyperbole into that of reality. You don't get that. I don't think you are capable of getting that and I'm pretty sure you will never get it. Make no mistake however, this tragedy is the straw that broke the camel’s back and whether you are on board or not something will be done about your ability to own semi-automatic rifles and 100 round magazines. Believe that! |
Re: Gun Control Thread- Should we?
somewhat reasonable points up to this, not sure where you're going there
You know what I was saying. In my day if you acted up in class the teacher would come over and yank your ass out of class. If that happened today they would end up in court and looking for a new job. Kids know this and do as the please. Your 50 and I'm sure if you looked at your teacher back in school and said you had rights they would have shown you your rights. We feared our teachers while at the same time we respect them and loved them. |

My point is people with guns can be mowed down too and it can be done most effectively with the help of awful rifles the NRA advocate citizens should be able to carry for "self-defense." Even an office where everyone can be presumed to be packing can't protect itself against a killer toting semi-automatic gun with 100 round magazine. I'm not sure a killer would be as effective with a 9mm pistol. Sure, they will be able to kill the assailant but not before lots of people are on the ground bleeding, dying or dead. |

You go try and buy quantities needed to make a bomb and see what happens. |
Re: Gun Control Thread- Should we?
Their answer is often... more guns.
Craziness.
Last I checked, the NRA is about more guns with concealed carry, and maintaining instant background checks, and much longer prison sentences for crimes committed with guns. I'm not crazy about concealed carry, but working on the the rest is part of the solution, IMO. Still have to do something about the high end guns that are used for the sporadic horrific massacre, and the cheap handguns that are used kill a lot of innocent people every year. While keeping in mind that a gun doesn't fire or mishandle itself. edit: Having a registration just to keep up with guns in proximity to people with mental health issues might be a solution, but there's obstacles to tracking both. To not "infringe" on a Constitutional right that an overwhelming majority of gun owners don't abuse, any registration shouldn't be turned into a burden for law-abiding citizens, like the ridiculous DC gun control laws that have done nothing to reduce violence using guns. |

Only if you're really inept. Get cash, take the time to buy in multiple locations, job done. |

You clearly didn't read the link I provided. I would encourage you to feel stupid, read the link and re-think your post.
The Ammonium Nitrate Security Program is outlined in the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), and it seeks to reduce the likelihood of a terrorist attack involving misused ammonium nitrate by creating a registration program for purchasers and sellers of ammonium nitrate. Each purchaser and seller will be required to apply for an Ammonium Nitrate (AN) Registered User Number with the Department, and each applicant will be screened against the Terrorist Screening Database (TSDB). Following the screening process, approved individuals will be issued an AN Registered User Number, which will allow them to engage in the sale, purchase, or transfer of ammonium nitrate. Transactions involving the sale or transfer of ammonium nitrate will be regulated at the point of sale and procedures for reporting a theft or loss of ammonium nitrate will be established.
|

I read your (ancient) link, it's a 'proposed' rule, not in force. Ahem..... A 'feel good', knee-jerk piece of legislation designed to placate sheeple. Just trying to communicate with you makes me feel more stupid. :frusty: |

But that would be illegal! Like getting a sketchy firearm once they're made illegal to privately own.... |
