Can the Chip Kelly's offense really run and function as quick as Denver's?
No. Vick cannot handle reading defenses and adjustments at the line like Manning. In fact, probably no one can, but Vick's intelligence level compared to Mannings is laughable. If Kelly had Manning, look out. I think it will be a mess with Vick running it. Then soon, Foles...and Barkley. |
So really only one quarterback came back full strength right away, which was Phillip Rivers. I am sure it will take some time for RG3 to feel completely comfortable with is knee.
Also Carson Palmer came back quicker than RG3, which I thought was very interesting.
Interesting. Carson Palmer tore his ACL, MCL, and dislocated a kneecap against the Steelers in the playoffs. Then, the next preseaason, he actually played in two games. That season he threw for 4,035 yards and the second most TD passes in his career, 28. Now, that's a quick recovery. Hopefully, RG3 can have similar success. |

Here's a balanced read. I like the style, hope ESPN does it frequently since they have a blogger for each team now.

Here's my prediction for the eagles offense- the eagles offense will be the most fast-paced offense... to 3 and out.

Re: Skins vs Eagles week 1
Some guys let Vick, McCoy and Jackson worry them. Especially with Chip Kelly the new offensive guru pulling the strings.
Just don't forget that we have Griffin, Morris, and Garcon (that I think are better offensively) and the Shanahans... and a load of other guys on defense that clearly are better than the guys the Eagles will be fielding. The Eagle should be scared. |

Here's why I think Washington will score a ton of points against the Eagles. Reason 1: if their offense is successful, their defense will only get a few minutes of rest. Reason 2: If their offense fails, their defense will only get a few minutes of rest. Reason 3: The way we pound the ball at defenses, they will get tired anyway. By the 4th quarter, the Eagles defense is going to be so exhausted, we'll be running for a first down every other time we hand it off. |

It was simplistic, but really opened my eyes to how he viewed the game. Basically, he said, every stretch play forces the whole defensive line to run the width of the field (assuming you go both left and right with a regular frequency. So even if at the beginning of the 1st quarter the defense is hitting the line quick and hard, by the end of the 3rd/beginning of the 4th quarter, those big dudes are going to have run far more than your offensive line, who won't have to chase across the whole field. I agree, by the 4th quarter the Eagles D will be pretty exhausted. |

Re: Skins vs Eagles week 1
No matter how good and different Chip Kelly's offense is, the thing that is known on the eagles is Vick. He will have the same strengths and weaknesses he has had since going to the eagles. He has become the player that he will be. And to play into this pun- he has become an old dog. That means no matter how much Chip Kelly's offense helps him- he will still perform like Mike Vick. And how he does so goes the eagles. You focus to bring out his weaknesses and contain and take away his strengths- the Redskins will dominate the game. The thing to worry about though is- Vick has always seemed to play well against the skins. The thing to feel good about is - these redskins seem to be a strong, confident team that Vick has yet to face.

Re: Skins vs Eagles week 1
Not buying Kelly. At all.
I did at first b/c he seemed to be saying the right things. While paying lip service to the fact that the NFL is a different game, however, he still makes comments like "Time of possesion is just folks standing around". His "Blur" worked in colleges b/c he was dealing with amateurs. Nothing in the scheme is new - its the same routes and plays run by traditional offenses - just done at a faster pace. In fact, just as the faster paces forces defenses to simplify their schemes, it does the same for the offense. It's entire concept is "Go fast, so D must show it's hand pre-snap then call the right play that attacks the weakness of the D shown." A defense, however, that can disguise its coverage pre-snap and limit its use of situational personnel (and, thus, not show its hand) will stymie the offense. Not buying the Eagles. At all. This team went 4-12 and it was just b/c of injuries along the OLine. They have replaced their secondary entirely. Vick. Sucks. (see my earlier post). They have a dangerous RB & a dangerous but limited WR (who has NO ONE opposite him to stop teams from doubling him all day long) - that's it. There ain't no more. Teams will run through their defense all day. When they go to a 4WR offense, opposing teams will point and laugh. It is laughable to hear folks talk this sucky a** team up. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles week 1
One player that I would want to start that probably won't against the Eagles is Amerson in place of Wilson. Wilson seems to always be playing from behind. Amerson would make some rookie mistakes but I think would still bring solid play and the possibility of making a big play.

Re: Skins vs Eagles week 1
Meanwhile, the Skins are not the team they were two or three years ago. There is a noticeable talent increase on both offense and defense from the times when "Vick played well against us" or Jackson was running through our defense at will. Additionally, the change in the team's intangibles has been noted by almost all analysts who actually follow the team.
The Eagles and Skins are two teams moving in opposite directions. For both teams, last year was merely the prelude. The bright lights of Monday Night Football are going to burn off the chaff, expose the truth and show everyone the path these teams are travelling. Hallelujah my football brothers, on Monday, you shall see victory! On that day, football dominance will stand in your midst and you will sing its praises: "A new day is come. A new sun is risen. The glory of the past will once more be recalled and will light the way for the new future! Woe be unto those that challenge our team for they will be as dust before the storm." ... and just to be sure, I am sacrificing a goat. |
