Yeah I really don't know what we are missing about McVay that would make him such a great HC...
Even Cooley as saying he'd have a serious opportunity, either now or in a near future... Don't know what's so special about him. Have to give him this offense has been pretty productive under his watch. And with, when you think about it, few superstars. I'm not sure Pierre Garçon (who I love and want to stay with us) would look as good as he does here in another offense.
We'll miss him. He has been around football since he was a baby, his grandpa got 5 rings with the Niners. I read an article that he acts like his 45, great interviewer and has great knowledge. How do you explain Cousins growth the last 2 years? Don't underestimate the man cause some folks dislike him. |
Re: The coordinators
That sucks to be 30 and act like you're 45. Be 45 when you're 45.
He's barely been a OC, and he's already super young for that position, and he has a lot of improvements he needs to make. And somehow he's going to coach a whole team? This isn't about him staying here, I won't cry if he leaves, I just don't see why he's qualified to be a HC, let alone possibly the leading candidate. |

The Rams want him to improve Goff like he did with Cousins. |
Re: The coordinators
Three reasons why McVay is an interesting candidate despite his youth:
Experience: McVay might only be 30, but he’s been around the game longer than most who are older. He’s described as “30 going on 45” by people who know him well. McVay’s grandfather worked for the San Francisco 49ers from 1979-95, including as the vice president/director of football operations for 12 of those years. McVay spent a lot of time with him. And he’s been in the NFL since 2008 (except for one year when he was an assistant in the United Football League). He’s been the Redskins’ offensive coordinator since for three years. Kirk Cousins deserves the bulk of the credit for his growth as a quarterback, but the coaches deserve praise, too. McVay has worked with him for three years and the offensive design -- combined with the talent -- should help any quarterback. It's a good system. Interviews well: Those who know McVay best say they’re confident in how well he’ll handle interviews. Naturally, the word is that his interview with the Rams went well Thursday. Typically that’s what you’ll hear with most coaches interviews, but with McVay it’s believable. He has never come across as someone who is young or out of place in his role. During media sessions, McVay doesn’t always say a whole lot, but he sounds good saying it and he speaks well. He’s a little like how Derek Jeter was with the Yankees: Say enough to somewhat satisfy, but nothing controversial, and move on. The point: He has some polish. It will be different for him when he must answer questions about both sides of the ball, but he’s really good at staying on message. Approach: Multiple players, but especially the quarterbacks, have all said the same thing about McVay. He’s as detailed a coach as they’ve been around. Backup quarterback Colt McCoy said McVay and quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh “are two of the most detailed guys I’ve been around. They give us extra notes. They have great ideas of how we’re supposed to play. Sean has a specific way he wants things done. He’s very detailed. We’re always prepared.” Knowing McVay, he will take that same approach to interviews, which is why those close to him have known he’d do well in these settings. I honestly wish he would stay with us. People seem to think that very good OC's grow in trees, just like DC's. |

I would like him to stay, but I know it's only a matter of time before he leaves. If he doesn't get a HC job this year, he will next year. The real question is who do we find to replace him? Do we pick someone form the Gruden Tree or bring in a fresh face? |

Because NFL decision makers are always right? Lol. We hired a defensive coordinator that was part of a 0-16 team over Wade Phillips. Just because they make decisions doesn't make them right. And the ownership of both those teams are a joke. I live in CA, and I know people that root for both teams including my dad, my uncle, and 2 of my best friends. |

I went to high school in Martinez, then went to DVC JC, and transferred to SDSU. Where are you? After I posted my response I remembered that you're a fellow Californian. I met Brent Jones at a card show when I was younger, and he mocked me for being a Skins fan. I loathe Brent Jones lol. |

Re: The coordinators
I can see why he would be hired, he's got the "it" factor and has enjoyed a rapid ascension from TE coach to talented OC in the span of a few years. The article above covers it pretty well too. For me the big question of how successful he would be as a head coach is: Can he set the right tone, or is he going to make players mad that they have to take orders from a coach younger than them? If he commands respect of the entire locker room, there's no reason he can't be successful. Yes clearly he has room for improvement and could use some seasoning, but we only know that because we got a front row view to watch him as a playcaller. They might not necessarily find faults with him like we did. And it only takes one to like him enough.

Re: The coordinators
According to a Mike Silver source, McVay crushed both 49ers and Rams interviews, he's likely gone. I would consider Mike McCoy as our mext OC.

Out of all the names I could think of, McCoy wouldn't be the worst. He won't have Peyton at qb like he did his last season with the Broncos, but I remember he worked his magic with Orton/Tebow at qb before then. With our luck we'll end up with the Lions 2008 offensive coordinator though lol. |

If Scott leaves, could Bill Callahan just step up and keep things as is? with maybe more creative run plays. He was a head coach and OC in past, and already knows our system. Or just have Gruden do it again, he's a 4th year coach who probably can handle it now.. |

I'm not sold on Gruden as a coach yet, I think the more responsibilities he can delegate the better. That's my fancy way of saying I don't want him calling plays. He just needs to focus on leading the squad. I ain't saying he's a bad coach just that he needs some more seasoning. Also that's a side effect I didn't think of, I heart Bill Callahan and hope he never leaves. But that's a reality we might have to deal with if McVay walks. |
