Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Id be okay with that ... doesnt solve our QB1 problem but Brissett could compliment our 2-1 run offense, probably be better at quick pass play calls, good ball protection and let the D do their thing.
------------------ Carr's most recent extension included the right for the Raiders to cut him within three days of the Super Bowl for a relatively minor $5.625 salary-cap hit and gave the quarterback a no-trade clause. Thursday's statement could be seen as taking away the Raiders' leverage in a trade. Carr, whose contract guarantees him $40 million if he is still with Las Vegas or agrees to a trade before Feb. 15, could simply wait for the Raiders to release him and hit the open market, with Las Vegas getting nothing in return. Trades cannot become official until March 15. So if the Raiders do find a trade partner for Carr, not only would the quarterback have to agree to the destination, the Raiders would also have to trust that the other team would not back out. So while Carr might find a robust market for his services, his trade value to the Raiders might not be as high as it once was. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35432111/qb-derek-carr-writes-farewell-message-raiders-fans Cant say I fully understand this or seen it before. Looked up Carrs contract .. what a funky contract. there is little guaranteed money left and its all salary. Wow what an odd contract. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/derek-carr-14445/
If I'm Carr, my preference would to be traded before February 15th. No one is paying him 40 million on the open market, unless they're insane. I'll take my 40 million this year, then worry about my future after that. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
These QBs all average $40 million or more per year. Goff is right behind them at $35 million. Derek Carr will definitely get $40 million per year on the open market.
Aaron Rodgers Russell Wilson Kyler Murray Deshaun Watson Patrick Mahomes Josh Allen Matt Stafford Dak Prescott Kirk Cousins |

Aaron Rodgers - Earned Russell Wilson - Worst trade/contract in NFL history if this season is his new play Kyler Murray - Not worth it Deshaun Watson - TBD. Prior to getting Tuddy's all over Houston, he would have been worth it Patrick Mahomes - Can't pay him enough Josh Allen - Can't pay him enough Matt Stafford - I'd take it due to getting a Super Bowl Dak Prescott - Not worth it Kirk Cousins - Not worth it |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
That's the going rate for a top 10 QB. You can opine that it's not worth it, but that's the rate.

He's not a Top 10 QB though. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
LMAO Carr is not even a top 15 QB at this point. Come on guys we need to stop going after these washed up dudes

More reason to not go after any of them. I can guarantee that Howell will be much better than Carr. I just have that gut feeling about Howell. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Carr .. sign me up (Id be giddy)
Trade up for one of the 4 highly ranked QBs ... sign me up (Id be giddy) Sign a Brissett and Howell ... sign me up (meh ... maybe next year we will try and solve the QB problem in a QB league ..) |

If you are grading him based on this year, I would agree. However, if you throw out this year, the year J McDaniel inserted himself, he's definitely a top 10 QB. This was a down year for him I guess: 3522 yards passing, a 60.8% completion percentage, with 24 TDs, and 14 INTs The previous five years he averaged over 4100 yards passing, 67.5% completion percentage, 22 TD, and 11 INT Anyway, top 15 QBs make about $35 million/avg. Everyone wants a top QB, but no one wants to pay for one. That said, I would rather roll with Howell and pick up a cheaper FA QB...but if they are hell bent on going after a top QB, if D Carr makes it to free agency, in my opinion he's the best option because it doesn't require giving up players or picks...assuming you can get a deal done. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
We've signed Fromm to a futures contract this week, which right now (assuming TH weeks and CW is cut) makes him our #2 QB. I'm not convinced he's anything more than an emergency back up, but I'm disinclined to pick a QB in the draft unless he's BPA and we're not drafting them at the cost of a pressing need. We're not likely to be able to pick up a top guy at 16, so we'd be trading up (with what?) or reaching as it stands.
I wouldn't trade for Carr, not least because we'd be throwing draft capital away again, but if he makes it to FA I'd be interested. Otherwise I'm picking up a capable FA and starting out with SH pencilled in as #1. Must draft OL, CB AND LB. I rank QB at least 4th importance given the above, if not lower. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I voted other... Stick w/ SH but bring in a vet or drafted player to compete w/ him. Bring back TH for insurance.
It really doesn't matter. W/ Ron running things we're stuck at 7-8 wins tops. He wants a 2-1 run pass ratio. That is comical. If Jay Gruden was coaching this team, or running the offense, we'd be playing this week. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
When the new ownership comes in, if I were them, my first call would be to Ozzie Newsome. How much do you want? I'm giving him 5 years, I'm giving him full control and I'm not taking no for an answer.

@MikeGarafolo
The #Commanders reached out to former #Colts and #Lions head coach Jim Caldwell about their vacant OC job, sources tell me and @RapSheet, but he told them he’s only pursuing head-coaching opportunities. He’s interviewed for two this cycle. |
