Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I think that Alex will be here next year, if just for the cap hit reasons alone.
The team needs to bite the bullet and go for a top talent, 1st round draft pick. we won't be a playoff caliber team until we get a premium QB at the helm. Alex and Colt are not the answer except as place holders. |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Quite possible he is going to keep playing like that but I am gonna give him at least one single practice rep with the first team before I write him off as being able to improve our offense enough to win the division. We saw flashes yesterday and you cannot deny him and Reed are on the same page. Maybe some film of himself and not someone else and a little practice will help him with the turnovers. You can keep my crow in the freezer until at least next Tuesday. |
ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Whats Colts qbr today? There should be a line of posters apologizing to AS today
Are you shitting me? You see no possible way him being thrown into that huge game after years of standing on the sidelines, on a short week on the road in Dallas, and zero practice might have had anything to do with his performance? Also you see no decline in our defense and run game over the last couple weeks that might have something to do with the loss? Alex Smith would have won last night without a shadow of a doubt in your mind so much so to the point that we should apologize publicly for ever doubting that he was the reason we were cruising along at 6-3 and now we cannot get out of our own way? Brother please. |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think he did a much better job of leading the receivers than AS. How many times has Davis been wide open and Smith over/under/not even been close to him? CM did have some piss poor throws and the turnovers are always going to be higher with CM, but 23 points was kind of the high point for an AS run offense. CM it will be the standard. |

Colt had had zero practices with the first team since becoming the QB. Everybody needs to take a breath. He might suck and be the worst ever, BUT the situation so far might not be indicative of what the team may be. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

The article by Schefter is entitled “Smiths return not certain “. Lol. Matty he is a 34 year old quarterback who just sustained a major major injury. I think him not returning is a completely legit option. The thing is that whether he does or not we are probably screwed. Cap hell either way because he was not the answer. We locked him up like he was Aaron Rodgers. |

We need to draft QB immediately
Cant draft one unless he is the potential answer going forward. We got way too many holes , wr’s, db’s, oline, to draft a quarterback that might pan out. Id rather ride with colt or alex another year - address those other needs- and see who is available in the next draft. |

I read the article didn’t see anything that said “good chance” he doesn’t return. I know we have a lot of weekend MD’s here but the only thing I took from that was it’s wait and see mode right now. We’ll know more in a few months as he starts to heal. |

I do not think it takes an armchair MD to come to the conclusion that his return is uncertain, or even leaning towards no. Old, wasn’t playing that great, major injury. Again, even if he heals up incredibly fast and easy do you feel good about him as our starter? If he was playing scared before the injury he is going to be a shell of a shell of a shell upon a possible return. |

It will be on the back of his mind for sure. The question is if he comes back, will he scramble or just go down? |

Didn’t seem like he was scrambling this year? He just got rid of the ball right away. When we made that trade i thought he would make up for his lack of arm strength with his mobility. Keep plays alive with his legs. Not sure if he was to blame or Gruden for not putting him in a situation to do that. Probably a little bit of both. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
My question to the clowns in the front office is if Smith was already under contract when they made the stupid ass trade, why did they extend him for 3 more years? Couldn't they have just waited a year to see how things went?

He would have become a free agent after this season, Skins probably weren’t interested in more QB contract drama |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I think anybody, weekend MD's or not, who are guessing that it's a "sure thing" that Alex Smith comes back, are being completely foolish. I would say he has a greater chance of not coming back, due to everything that we have heard, and perhaps the actual doctors feel the same now that they are taking the wait and see approach, instead of saying "oh yeah, he's coming back and will be totally fine, no doubt about it".
We already look pretty stupid IMO the day Jay gave his presser and told everybody that Alex would be back in six months. Almost every day since then, we have gotten worse news about Alex. The first news break was that the break/injury was worse than we initially believed several hours after the game. Then last week it was that Alex faced a 8-10 month rehab time barring any setbacks. Now this week it is that the doctors seem to be acknowledging that this is potentially a career ending injury. I do agree with Matty we should know by the spring i would think, if Alex actually can come back. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I don’t think anyone including myself has said it’s a sure thing he’s coming back. Just like that would be dumb to say it’s also dumb to speculate that his career is over.

I am Celtics fan, I will tell you right now Gordon Hayward is shell of his former self. He is 28 and had nearly entire calendar year to heal and rehab.

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Whether AS comes back or not, his cap hit is very heavy and it means that the team won't be able to hire anything but a cheap veteran replacement.
I also wonder if big ticket players like Norman might be let go due to the ripple effect of this cap tsunami. I think this forces the Redskins to at least consider drafting a QB in the first round, in the bid to get a franchise QB |

I just read tonight that Alex Smith is still in the hospital from his leg surgery. I guess he has a pretty serious infection.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
yeah, in football terms he was on the Skins for a day or two. And fans had already been throwing him under the bus. But yeah to be a good guy he has to forego his money or retire after June for the team's sake. If he's done, he's done, and he doesn't owe the Skins anything, heck if we had waited till he hit the open market he probably would have made even more money, just because time would have passed, and he would have been the backup in KC this year. |

Beyond reason to discuss, absolutely not. Especially in the wake of a $12M insurance policy taken out on Smith's contract. That's pretty interesting news to me. It's something never considered whenever we hear about these mega contracts being passed out in the NFL. It lessens the blow, somewhat, if Smith does indeed retire. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I need Alex to do the right thing, gift the money back to Dan Snyder and Bruce...petition the NFLPA to an emergency vote to give the Redskins back their Cap Space...then Alex Smith needs to admit to being the girl in the Kareem Hunt video, admit to saying very bad things and it was his fault Kareem went kray - at the sametime Redskins sign Hunt to the team...Alex then needs to lead an exorcism at FedEx thus lifting the curse off the field and the FO ensuring years of domination.....Alex is a good guy, he needs just to go ahead and do all of this shortly.

I am not saying he hasn't, but he has always been a player's owner - from being at the bedside of RGIII after surgery to flying the team down for ST's funeral, and many other examples.
I can't really say I have any proof of how Dan runs things within his own office. I'm also not saying he has "screwed Skins players with a loophole." The point I was trying to convey is the fact that NFL teams treat players as a commodity. They trade/release/sign players at their own free will with little regard to how that will effect a players life. Example: K. Fuller found out he was going to the Chiefs via ESPN. I can only assume the players have seen these instances at a more up-close level and thus don't feel the need to honor any owners "best wishes." How many times have you heard players, coaches and GM's alike say, "At the end of the day it's a business..." So, in terms of business, Smith is going to accept every penny that the Redskins agreed to pay him, as he should. And, as a business, the Redskins are NOT going to pay him more than they said they would, because why would they? Smith is a nice guy, yes. But business is business. |
