re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
You are correct in hesitating on that. No one really knows.
But since AH complained of being restricted by Blache's scheme, and since most nose tackle jobs are more restrictive still, I have supposed that he would be unhappy in the role. Then again, some 3-4 nose tackles play a more penetrating style and are not expected to be cloggers. If we play him that way, he may be happy. As for Carter, he flat-out said that he wants his hand on the ground. Given this and his history in SF, I find it hard to foresee him flourishing in any 3-4 set-up which Haslett might concoct. :twocents:
Did AC say that recently? |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
There are many variations of the 3-4, just because Carter didn't play well in SF's scheme it doesn't mean he can't succeed here.
I still don't understand the assumption that AH #1 doesn't want to play the nose, and #2 wouldn't be successful doing so. It's not like he wouldn't also play DE as well depending on the situation.
Indeed, Haslett mentioned in an interview that he thought that Carter would like what they'd do with him vs his previous experience in the 3-4 |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
We dont need a DE we need a another LB I like Dansby from the Cardinals. He is only 28 and Peppers is 30 yrs old. we must remember Fletcher is getting long in the tooth as well. I also would not mind us going after Dunta Robinson CB from Texans. Rogers than can be traded for at least a 3rd and 7th round pick.

No, your both wrong just read what this says about Carter. Redskins Insider - Redskins are likely to make to make high-profile roster cuts |

Although if Carter does have the same opinion about being OLB in the 3-4 as he did in SF, then I can see him being released. |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
I would take a look at Leigh Bodden and Aaron kampfman as cheaper alternatives to Peppers and Dunta Robinson.

I thought Aaron Kampman was being let go because he'll fit better as a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 OLB? |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
Call me greedy, but I want now AND later. The best players on our already fearsome defense are staying. The ones who are in limbo are ALL FILLER to me ESPECIALY Carlos Rogers. Whoever we get on defense needs to be in one of two categories...
Immediate difference makers Young immediate difference makers Period. Peppers is neither. He has zero years left of his best years. He may have 2 years left where he plays good enough to start for a team with an average defense. This is going to be expensive and pointless. |

yes he was just like Carter was allowed to walk from San Fran because he didn't fit any of the variations of the 3-4 which Mike Nolan ran. And Leigh Bodden is shaky to sign IMO, he was always being picked on I feel whenever I saw NE play last year. |
I thought Aaron Kampman was being let go because he'll fit better as a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 OLB?
Not true really. He probably is better with his hand on the ground, but he still has impressive numbers from the first half of last year, and proved he could make it as a 3-4 OLB.
I think the Packers are letting him hit the market because 1) he's coming off a major knee injury, and 2) they were just fine defensively without him last year. That's a combination that makes it tough for the Packers to justify a long term deal there. That is a big red flag on him, but if he's healthy, he's got 2-3 more years as a top end pass rusher in this league. He's a good alternative to Peppers in a 3-4 defense, but unlike Peppers, HE himself might want to avoid signing with a team to play the 3-4. |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
I'm not sure Kampman wants to play in a 3-4, I thought he wasn't a big fan of being converted to LB?

At LB across from Rak, we would have a devastating rush linebacker set-up. It seems that a better argument against Peppers is that he will never be able to provide full value for the contract that he likely will be signing simply because no one could ever perform up to such an enormous contract. |

Leigh Bodden had a good season in my opinion, I saw the opposite of you. Here are his stats for 2009: Leigh Bodden Game Log - New England Patriots - ESPN |
I'm not sure Kampman wants to play in a 3-4, I thought he wasn't a big fan of being converted to LB?
Agreed that if he gets a comparable offer from a 4-3 defense, he's going to choose to put his hand in the dirt.
From our perspective though, I think he'd be a good alternative to signing Peppers. But if you're asking me if I think we can get him to come here, I'm not sure we can without vastly overpaying. |
