Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
I voted too harsh because how this compares to Spygate. Belicheat didn't get suspended, although the Pats did lose a first rounder (but this is nothing to the Pats). Still if Belicheat is not suspended at all for cheating, suspending Peyton is a bit harsh if you ask me.
Bill didn't lie about it when approached either. That's the difference. They acknowledged it, took their lumps and moved on. Payton and crew on the other hand denied it and lied for a couple years. Not the same situation. |
I don't have reason to think Shockey posted a fake conversation. I also know that just about everyone else who could know that is saying anything has said unequivocally that Shockey was not the "snitch/whistleblower"
Also, what does it make Sapp if he's ratting out the guy that he believes ratted out the Saints? What's to gain there?
Ratings and attention. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
I voted too harsh but only because I think that a year for Payton is really steep. I think a 4-8 games suspension for Payton would have sent a strong message (which was the point) by itself.

At first I thought a year for Payton was pretty harsh too, but after hearing Goodell explain it I think it's justified. Even if Payton didn't know what was going on (and let's be honest here it's pretty obvious he did) he's ultimately responsible for the actions and conduct of his team. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
So the one part that I thought might be excessive turns out is not entirely accurate.
According to Mort, Payton's suspension is lifted day after the Super Bowl (not April 1, 2013) so he'll be around for senior week, combine, pro days, free agency, etc |

Yeah, you have a point there. I still feel Belicheat believes he did nothing wrong. Oh well. Sent from my Samsung Epic 4G. |

I'll step up, I was one of the fans that wanted Williams to replace Gibbs when he stepped down after 2007. I'm definitely glad that didn't happen now. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
Those that wanted GW as our HC shouldn't have to eat crow, it's not like we had any idea this was going on or what a scumbag he is. In hindsight sure, it would have been a bad idea.

Ditto. At the time, he was what looked like the best option. Could have even been better than some of those we interviewed for the position and certainly would have been better than Zorn...but where would this scandal have us now. We could be the Saints right now, so we probably dodged a big bullet. |

Not really. First off, when he was being discussed as Gibbs' successor, none of the bounty stuff was public in anyway, so it's not like people knew he was POS and still wanted him as HC. Secondly, I'm of the frame of mind that he probably wouldn't have had a lot of success as HC here, and even if he was given the job, he probably wouldn't have it anymore, regardless of bountygate. |

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
Brad Johnson was worth $15K late in his career?
I'd love to see a full price list. |
