Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

He had 300 yards and more than half of them were yac on screens. He had one deep ball and honestly it was garbage time. Shit you throw enough downfield one is gonna hit the target.

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?
the entire game was screens, short crossing routes and screens. we have zero offense over 10 yards unless someone breaks a tackle.

i would put in allen simply because we already know dh is not the future. he is not going to be the starter here next year. he may be out of the league next year.
Right and the Ravins were happy to GIVE Haskins the little dink and dunk stuff, because they are excellent tacklers. Haskins has nothing in the over 15-20 yard pass range to scare anyone. Teams know how to beat Haskins. Keep him passing short. This was what was happening to Alex Smith as teams caught onto his act before he was hurt.
One thing to remember is that Rivera is seeing how good he can get Haskins by let’s say, mid season. Rivera ALREADY KNOWS how good Allen is. Except for McLaurin / Gibson we have little real talent at EITHER TE or WR #2 or 3. So, it not like Allen is going to blow anyone away with what we have to throw to. Haskin’s is going through his progressions and except for Terry, his other WR/TE usually aren’t open!

Ultimately, they hope to get Haskins confident enough to throw longer. But the sad truth is there’s not a lot of open there. Quick slants and screens are all that are open now. Soon, they will have to start throwing it long to either get a pass interference call or maybe a catch. Turner didn’t do it today because they’re trying to get Dwayne’s confidence back.

We should test Haskins for four games. FOUR GAMES only. Not four more games but four games total and next week is our fifth game. Our division is total crap. We can win it but not with Haskins at the controls.

I hope the Jets somehow win some games. Giants look pretty competitive right now. Im really starting to get on the tank for trevor bandwagon....

Don’t worry .. we are the worst team and it’s not close ..giants and jets would be favored to win over us .. sad to say

.....and there supposedly several good QB’s, not just one.
I have seen enough of Haskins. He is not going to become Joe Montana.
However if we play another QB we might start winning games and.......

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

They’re going to see how high they can get Haskins. I’m sure all the older coaches can see Haskins and can tell you whether he’s a franchise QB or not. They’ve studied more film and if we think we can see things, they have more insight times 100 from us fans. Part of it is to SELL our stupid OWNER that they have given him a chance, since it was he and his numbnut lackey BRUCE ALLen that decided to draft Haskins in the first place. But also many “experts” thought the team had an outstanding draft with HASKINS and SWEAT. Both are long on promise but we’re waiting for the payoff!.

Another factor is if Rivera/Smith actually think Haskins is NOT the one, they may be hoping someone else may think Haskins has a future and the team may get something in a trade. AGAIN, Rivera knows exactly what he has with Allen. They will keep Haskins in as long as his UPSIDE looks promising or his possible end result this season could be better than Allen. There is little reason to put in Allen unless Haskins regresses.

Finally, if the team drafts a QB with their first pick, there will be a QB competition next PS. Maybe a year of experience could make Haskins more competitive as our backup or as a trade. Either way, unless Haskins levels off or regresses the team will benefit by playing him.

Rivera tested Haskins on this fourth down, and Haskins failed

Well, what happened is that Haskins couldn't locate a receiver behind the goal line, so he opted to connect with Isaiah Wright, who wasn't even close to it. Wright couldn't evade the multiple defenders who converged on him, and Washington meekly turned it over on downs.

That was not the choice Rivera wanted his young signal caller to make.

"[I’m] a little disappointed in the situational awareness," the coach said. "He’ll have to understand that ball has to be in a position to put it in the end zone."

I do get Rivera's statement but why are they running routes well short of the goal line in that situation?

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

Rivera on Haskins' day: Some positives; made some good throws; long one to Terry (tho b/c down 21 he called it inconsequential). Showing growth.
Called it a tough situation.
"We're looking at our circumstances as a team," he said. "Very interesting situation right now."

WTH does this even mean?
