Re: The Sam Howell Thread
The one thing i like about the Sam is this is kinda the perfect situation for this team right now. A guy the team likes and based on the sale and new regime in waiting, if it fails…it won’t hurt down the road. Just this year.
Unlike the Haskins decision where the new regime in Ron was forced to give Haskins a look when we had the no 2 pick in the draft with solid QB options that year. We hear “set back” a lot, there was no truer of a definition of a franchise set back than that. Still disgusted by that move
[emoji817]. if he becomes the guy everyone thought he would be after his first two years it is an absolute dream scenario and if he doesn’t oh well. Why Howell went in the fifth round after his third year at UNC is still a mystery imo. Old article but as far as him slipping in the draft it is still timely. Re: The Sam Howell Thread
But he was a legit first round talent the year before. His play didn’t fall off that much. So [emoji2371].
Right, his play didn't fall off much and he came out in a weak class and still lasted until the 5th. I think fans need to let go of the draft hype and grades because it meant nothing in his case. |

Well in fairness the hype for him was before his third year. But even before his draft he was a second round projection. Hey if nothing else the guy will play with a chip on his shoulder. Id still take him over Pickett too. |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
If you check twitter today apparently Sam’s ceiling is Colt McCoy lol!! Good lord these DC media guys kill me

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
To be fair it was never said that Howell's ceiling is McCoy, it was just a player comp, and one that people have probably overreacted to just a bit.
Did fans overreact to Sam Howell being compared to Colt McCoy? The only issue we should have with Miller's take is saying Howell doesn't have great arm strength. His arm is plenty strong enough to make all the throws in the NFL. |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
I like the kid[Howell] and given a decent o-line the kid will be ok.

I agree…I also feel our couches will pull out all the cards to help him succeed. Such as running a lot of RPO to give him open throwing lanes, give running backs lanes, and he will use his legs ALOT more than Heineke as he develops as a passer. He’s a 5th round pick, and he gets really badly hurt…no offense, but we’ll move on. We don’t need to preserve him, and he probably prefers it that way as a 5th round pick this may be one of the biggest moments in setting up a potential future big pay day and a potential successful nfl career. I feel our offense will thrive because Heineke was almost reluctant to run last year…as I’m sure he wanted to protect himself for that nice payday. I think Howell will do fine, and we’ll find out more in training camp too. |

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
I think Russell Wilson is a much better comparison for Sam Howell than Colt McCoy. The style of play of Wilson and Howell is very similar and both of them can make throws that McCoy cannot because they have greater arm strength than Colt.
Now, don't think I just predicted that Sam Howell can have the same level of NFL success that Russell Wilson has had. That remains to be seen. |

I think this is an excellent article in which Mike Martz talks about Sam Howell and evaluates some of Sam's plays vs. Dallas. Enjoy! |
