Re: QB Prospects Thread
I hate to compare College to NFL but JD5 looks like a better passing Lamar Jackson.. We've seen what Lamar can do as a 2 time MVP... I like Maye alot and think he could be a good one but I feel Daniels is the safer more sure thing pick.
Yeah Daniels just has it in him to randomly flip the field on a scramble where he rips off 40 yards. He is likely to do that 1-2 times a game, which for a team that will likely have a lot of stalled drives will mean 1-2 more scoring chances per game. That said, I feel like this is a really nice problem to have because when I watch Maye I feel like I'm watching Justin Herbert. What separates Daniels from Maye for me is Maye sails some easy passes sometimes. I didn't see Daniels do that very much. And then the threat with the legs I've already mentioned. But if we ended up with either one I think we're looking at a franchise guy. I think there are 3 franchise level QBs in this draft and we pick 2nd. Finally, we're in the right place at the right time. Haven't been able to say that about QBs and the draft at any point in my adult life. |

Some say Maye is like Josh Allen but I tend to lean towards the Herbo comparison too. Very simialt players, Maye is prob a bit more mobile than Herbert. Overall I'm fine with either but still prefer JD |

Overall I'm fine with either but still prefer JD
I've also seen him compared to Andrew Luck . . . definitely wouldn't mine a young Andrew Luck coming on board!! |
Re: QB Prospects Thread
From a purely practical perspective Daniels makes sense. If he's an equivalent to Lamar Jackson, then he at least offers that added dimension of a QB that can gain rushing yards when pass plays break down or on designed plays that leverage his running ability without unnecessarily risking him. I'm not a LJ fan because he's not a great passer, but you can't say he's not a playmaker. If Daniels can be a better passer than LJ, then maybe you have a franchise QB. At worst he could be the guy that makes us competitive until a future franchise QB is available again.

You can't coach what this kid can bring to the table. His speed, quick release, and accuracy are elite. His release is significantly quicker than Maye's which is one reason I prefer him to be the pick.

Luck is the last college QB that I would have bet the farm on. If that player shows up, I say bet the farm. |

JD5 has as quick of a release as we've seen since AROD.. The ball flies off his hand. Thats a huge plus to have on top of his accuracy and quickness. Maye is more like Herbert, longer release but cannon arm. Its a toss up but I'm still hoping JD is the pick |
Re: QB Prospects Thread
Three weeks from today we will know who our potential franchise QB is.
Exciting times! |
Re: QB Prospects Thread
What QB do you want? What QB do you think we end up with:
1. Daniels 2. McCarthy |

I think I'd take Maye over JJ

Reality: Daniels My QB Rankings: Caleb Williams - Rookie of the year Daniels McCarthy Penix Maye Bold Prediction: Maye will slide in the draft. Will get drafted by the Jets at #10. Penix will lead the Vikings to the playoffs
Penix will probably be the guy everyone says “of course we should have drafted him, what were we thinking” I don’t know the answer too who we should or shouldn’t draft, but damn if there isn’t a good group of talented guys sitting there. We got some quality options. My best guess is outside of Caleb…it’s between Daniels or Penix. I think for Peters it’s between JJ and Daniels. |
Re: QB Prospects Thread
If you could tell me Penix would play through his rookie contract with a guarantee his knees/shoulders won't get injured, I would say he should be a Top 5 pick.
