how'd you prep and cook the tenderloin?
Had it marinating in a peppercorn sauce (garlic, shallots, ground peppercorns, olive oil) overnight, then cooked in the oven at 375 for about 30 mins. So tender.

dead thread... trying out absolut brooklyn tonight.. not a huge fan of absolut but some of their flavors have been good

this is an apple and ginger.. I started out on ice and it worked well.. so I added a little ginger ale to slow it down

I've been on a vodka kick lately. Picked up some Core Vodka, if you can find some in your area I highly recommend it. It's a hand crafted vodka made in NY from apples. Very clean and smooth. Great in a martini.

In MD they are super strict with what stores can buy, a local liquor store near me bought some wine for someone off a request but had extra so they put them on the floor, liquor board saw it. Made them close for 30 days and a $5k fine. Oh and the 30 days were not like X month closed no it was spread out over ever major holiday in 2009, the store was lucky to survive.

Re: Drunk Thread

Ah didn't know that. That sure stinks. States are screwy with the different liquor laws they have. We still can't buy wine in grocery stores in NY. So dumb.

Same here no beer or wine have to go to a liquor store. In Rhode Island we called it the Packy.

Wait, there are 2 different types of Liquor stores in MD. You have the Beer and wine stores that are only allowed to sell beer and wine and then you have the Liquor stores that can sell everything.

As crazy and as rare as it sounds I do know of at least one grocery store in MD that sells beer and wine; The Safeway off of Briggs Cheyney Road off of Route 29. It's quite possible that the liquor laws vary by county.

Hmmm...maybe. I do know one 7-11 that sells beer and I guess wine. Where I live though it is mainly beer, wine, and liquor all under one roof selling nothing else.

Ahh yes, the package stores. The wife and I lived in MA for a couple of years, I remember the first night in town we went grocery shopping and were searching high and low for the beer section. Found out the hard way that they don't sell beer in grocery stores, LOL.

Re: Drunk Thread

The liquor control laws do vary by county in the State of Maryland. Montgomery County and Wicomico County have county run liquor stores, and in MoCo, all beer/wine stores, restaurants, anyone who sells alcohol in the county HAS to purchase straight from the County. So if there is a new wine or booze out there, you can't just find a distributor to get it from. And if the county doesn't have it, you're SOL. Also in Montgomery County, there is a weird law that allows a chain that has a certain amount of stores within the county to sell beer/wine at one of their locations. The Magruders in Gaithersburg, The Shoppers in Germantown, a Giant Food in White Oak, 7-11 near Georgia and Connecticut are able to sell beer/wine in their locations while the rest of the stores cannot.

In Frederick County, beer/wine/liquor is sold at liquor stores for the most part. No grocery stores have beer/wine for sale that I know of. Some convenience stores sell beer and wine, but not all. There is an awesome liquor store in Frederick (Ye Olde Spirit Shoppe) that has a ton of rare and virtually unheard of beer, and does all keg purchases by special order, so if you can think it and they have a distributor for it, you can buy it.

I've lived in Maryland my whole life, even went to Salisbury University to get my undergraduate degree. I love the fact that from where I am, I'm 45 minutes away from Baltimore, 45 minutes away from downtown DC (as long as it's not rush hour), less than an hour from skiing and the mountains (2 hours to Wisp and Deep Creek Lake), and 3 hours from the beach. And most importantly, 2 minutes from Flying Dog Brewery (to keep in line with the Drunk Thread), and only several minutes from 2 other microbreweries.

Not that anywhere else is better or worse, I just love living here.

And it's such a gigantic pain in the ass. They have a monopoly on booze distribution, so they could give a shit about customer service. It's a such a huge hassle for me. They are constantly out of our staple products, offer no explanation, and don't really care to look into when they'll be back in stock. Plus they always act like they're doing us a favor. I loathe MoCo DLC.

But Maryland is awesome! I wouldn't trade being from the DC Area for anything.

ABC in Va is way worst. I used to order for a bar through them, if it was anything outside of the norm good luck.

I've heard horror stories from friends who work at restaurants and bars in the county. I think one summer, you were hard pressed for a week or 2 to get Captain Morgan products at any place that didn't keep a good stock.

Yeah it's a constant uphill battle. 3 of our 4 restaurants are in MoCo. Keeping them fully stocked at all times is next to impossible. The county is ALWAYS out of something important. I get tempted to go purchase products in the district, but that carries a hefty fine.

MD is very county-centric with the liquor laws

MoCo being a govt run county, calvert county some of the smaller independent grocery stores carry the full array, in charles it seems you have to go to a liquor store (pretty much all of them are beer/wine/liquor), and the hours vary everywhere

I can't keep up

Yeah that's how it was when I did mgmt with the VA ABC.. though we were pretty accommodating (well depending on the store manager).. was just a pain when olive garden/red lobster, etc wanted to place and pick up an order from 7-8pm on a freaking friday night when we're packed

we pretty much let people know what alternatives we had and if we knew what was coming in on shipment when it would be back.. they drive a lot of sales so we were very appreciative and let them know about new product and recipes

we special ordered stuff just for restaurants all of the time.. hell we special ordered stuff for ourselves, other customers, etc

I always got to get the last look at the order because it was in a college town and I knew about the trends more so than the older guys

Hefty fine, temp loss of license (this KILLS repeat business as customers will see you as shady), often a loss of employment

the monopoly sucks though.. do you guys get it sans sales tax?

OK, so I had a terrible day at work and my wife made me the biggest panty dropper I've ever had in my life. I think it has wine, vodka and some other crazy kind of liquor. I think she wants the hot love. She wants to eat at Mexican tonight so we have a tradition of doin' it, then going to have some burritos and call it Sexican.

I woke up with the worst headache today. It's a rare occasion that the wife tries to seduce me rather than the other way around, but sometimes drunk sex isn't the best because you kind of don't remember it.

And no mountains... just fields. I drove my tractor to the Mexican place and then we just rode cows back because I needed a DD. :D
