Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Interesting article. None of it surprises me. Bruce is Dan's bitch. He's just a better spoken and slightly smarter version of Vinny Cerrato. The guy does not impress me in the least bit when it comes to NFL football knowledge. Keep winning off the field bro and stay away from building a team.
I don't know, I am as skeptical about the Post's Redskin reporting as much as it's other media information. There is a telling 4 paragraph bit near the end, that says this is mostly just a blatantly negative nancy report:
I added the bolded emphasis. I believe that the Skins have gotten their past leaks under control, so the news media doesn't have much to go on so they revert to their inherent dislike for the Skins under Snyder. (pretty sure Cleveland the most inept franchise) That said, if BA has moved in to a Vinnie Cerrato type role where he really is undermining Scot and JG, then this off-season will be the tell-tale sign like Schneed pointed out.
Jerry Brewer is a columnist, not a reporter. You should be expecting opinion in this piece. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I feel like this is one of the problems the general public has with "Media" in general these days. (our president too, parenthetically)
Do people know what an "article" is vs what a "column" is? Do you know how to tell the difference? Do you know what is contained in one, vs the other? If you wanted unbiased information, to which would you go? If that's not intrinsically understood by every person with a high school education in this county, then I have questions about your high school. Because that shit was covered in every English class from grades 9-12. But I wonder. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I'll agree with one thing the media is saying right now:
It's the LACK of any statements that is truly disturbing. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Its simply un-fucking-believable that a redskins employee got on the radio and broadcast this out to everyone from Redskins Park.
This is really outstanding if you think about it. How fucking dumb and the Skins could have addressed it immediately. but crickets. Our we this stupid? |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Not to be picky, but this discussion probably goes into the "In Scot We Trust?" thread. Having said that, while I don't think it's the general public's right to know what's going on with Scot McCloughan's personal demons (or if nothing is going on), I think the 'skins front office needs to comment at this point, because the conjecture of these liberal rags are just going to keep coming until it either sabotages the team in some way or until the team actually finally responds.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
According to Bleacher Report's Jason Cole, the Redskins are wondering if they can sign Tony Romo if he's released by the Cowboys.
We wouldn't go as far to label this as a report, as it's more of a flimsy throwing-at-the-wall by Cole. But it's notable nonetheless since it makes a ton of sense. Long-term talks with Kirk Cousins have broken down, and it has the looks of a divorce waiting to happen. But as Cole mentions, Washington may not even get a shot at Romo if the Cowboys choose to trade him. Even if he's released, Romo and the Cowboys may have a handshake agreement that he doesn't sign with a division rival. Colt McCoy is currently the Redskins' No. 2 quarterback. im gonna put it here cause of the Skins QB issues, but all I have to say is "Hell No" More Rumors: NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah "would not be shocked at all" if the Redskins and 49ers agree to a trade involving Kirk Cousins at the Combine. Jeremiah isn't a typical Rotoworld source on the NFL side, but with draft season upon us, he definitely has an ear to the ground and talks with numerous personnel people around the league. He believes there's a "better than 50 percent" chance that Cousins isn't with the Redskins in 2017, and a deal involving Cousins going to San Francisco, possibly along with the Redskins' No. 17 overall pick, in exchange for the 49ers' No. 2 overall pick is in the cards. Furthermore, Jeremiah reports the Redskins' front office still isn't sold on committing to Cousins long-term. Washington seems intent on bungling this offense that at times over the past two seasons looked like it could be one of the best in the league. Cousins would be a massive get for the rebuilding Niners. |

Go ahead. However, they are even more stupid than I thought if they decide to swap first rounders in the deal. Keep #17, get SF's two 1st round picks, load up on defense in free agency and the draft, try to get Garappolo or whoever you feel is the best QB coming out of college, and call it a day. I'm tired of this shit. It's a laughable situation they put themselves in. Cousins holds ALL the cards, and this is probably the only way to guarantee that we at least get something for him. Tag him and don't trade him and he's gone next year without a doubt...most we could get for him is a 3rd round compensatory pick then. |

Sorry, but this sounds like the Redskins would be allowing the 49ers to dictate to them what they would want in exchange for Kirk Cousins. How in the world did Dan Snyder become a successful business man running negotiations like this? I would say screw that. The 2nd overall pick is not worth so much that the 49ers would have a straight up trade for one draft pick for the right to sign Cousins when the 'skins could simply just tag him with the non-exclusive and then move him for two first round picks. Even if the deal wound up being a trade of first round picks this year and a 2nd rounder and a third rounder (instead of another first), then at least wait until Cousins is tagged and have some sort of upper hand. I'm going to call bullshit on this. There might be a trade with the 49ers, but if it resembles this, then the Redskins front office is dumber than I gave them credit for. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
What if: this front office is actually way smarter than we think, and they love us way more than we think, and they just want us to doubt so we feel a tremendous amount of joy when they sign KC to a 6 year deal on July 14th... ? What? I'm reaching?

There's gotta be zero chance DS even thinks about bringing in Tony Romo, right? I mean he's a Redskins fan first, right?

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
The San Fran thing will soon be a done deal. I have been wrong about lots of things that I have said, but I remember well the day that I posted in this thread that Cousins was likely going to be somewhere else this coming season. I might be proven right, and I might be wrong again. But to me, I just saw too many signs and heard too many things indicating that this team wants desperately to move on from Cousins.
In the end, we will never know who was behind the decision to send him off. I suspect it was Snyder, but until Cousins gives his first interview as a 49er or member of whatever team, we may never know. Cousins is a classy guy and most likely wouldn't say anything bad about his time here, but if he is really frustrated, he may just come out and say something like "I wanted to be here and tried to make it work, but Dan Snyder constantly was telling me how much he wanted me gone", or something like that.. |

Bet your life on it. Dan wants to sell Jerseys above everything else. And a Tony Romo redskin jersey would indeed be an interesting sale... |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
If we get rid of Kirk for a switch of first round draft picks, the front office is a bunch of morons. I would think the minimum has to be a first and an early second (even that sounds dumb).

Right. Two years ago I moved to Wyoming. I can choose from Broncos and/or Seahawks and get plenty of support here. :-( |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I still don't believe it. It's all the same Jeremiah report that keeps getting picked up and referenced by all of these outlets.
Jeremiah doesn't know. I mean I'm not saying it's not possible, but I'll wait for the Werders, Schefters, JLCs and Rap Sheets to weigh in. I think Jeremiah is speculating. |

Why would we be the ones throwing in a first rounder in addition to Kirk? The minimum asking price should be 2 firsts for KC. That is the worst trade I have ever heard of in all my years. I would be done with this franchise if that happens. |

And that part of it is getting legs where it shouldn't. Jeremiah said it could involve the 17th pick, but that doesn't mean the only thing we'd get back is the 2nd overall. It could still mean multiple picks coming our way. I just think we should slow our roll and wait for this to be corroborated by the plugged-in insider types. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Basically the end days for the negotiations prior to applying the tag. Both sides will play to the media a bit, but I would imagine there are at least contract points going back and forth. The deadline for the tag is March 1st. Any news leaks or media reports, other than a done deal obviously, is just one side or the other trying to get pressure on the other.

I just want to hear a leak that says both sides are working together and are intent on making a deal happen. Is that too much to ask? |

Probably so. And much like the report that a head coach has the support of the owner days before that same coach is fired, I think a good report would carry a lot of skepticism. Honestly, I think the lack of real news is the best sign that both sides are actually working on it. If it was a dead deal, the Redskins would be signing other players or moving on to other contracts. The fact that they are still working on a structure that gives the Skins cap space and Cousins the deal he wants should be the de facto assumption barring any real news from Redskins Park or KC himself. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I think we are down to two possible scenarios playing out here.
1. Kirk wants out, period, end of story and will sign the franchise tag, play one more year and move on in 2018. No negotiations with other teams - done. 2. Kirk wants to stay, but they are so far apart on negotiations that his agent said screw it...apply the non-exclusive franchise tag and let's prove to the organization what the market is for your services. Honestly if Kirk is smart he goes with scenario #1. Take your $24mil and sign a long term deal next year with even more guaranteed $$$. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
If the Redskins can tag and trade KC to SF I would do it. KC for 2017 #1 #2 #4 and late 2018 picks. Then draft a QB (not with the #2 pick in the first) and rebuild the defense in one year. They would have 12 draft choices, including 8 picks in the first 4 rounds. And 65+ million in cap space

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Who do we draft at 2?? None of these QBs are worth that. This class is very weak from all experts opinions. This is all just amazing to me, it appears that Kirk doesn't want to play in Washington as I've assumed all along. Now that Kyle is a HC this all makes perfect sense.

it is irrelevant what the Rams did. The Redskins would have an opportunity to get several contributors this season. Fat Albert was a terrible free agent signing, so does that mean the Redskins never sign a free agent again ? |

If you have Colt Mccoy start week 1 or a rookie, you have to draft Leonard Fournette at number 2. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Tiki Barber
“Jordan Rodgers is basically stating the obvious, but he said it in a way that actually makes a lot of sense,” Barber said Wednesday. “Kirk Cousins is actually the more viable option, because Kirk Cousins will sit in the pocket and find his guy and read a defense and know pre-snap where he’s going to go with the ball, and if something breaks down, then he finds his checkdown back. Those two guys who they had in Washington were fantastic in giving him support in that role, so yeah, of course you take Kirk Cousins over Cam Newton, even though Cam Newton was the MVP. With Cam Newton, you get an MVP season one year and then the next year you get what the hell we saw in 2016. And what do you want? I’m not sure I want that roller-coaster. I’ve seen that roller-coaster — not with one guy, but with multiple guys over the course of my career. … With Cam Newton, you’re getting year-to-year volatility. With Kirk Cousins, you haven’t had that. It’s been pretty consistent.” |
