Yes, it is his body and his career. And if he doesn't do what it takes to keep his body in optimal playing shape, he is free to pursue his career elsewhere.
Carlos Rogers 2.0. He will go somewhere else, decide to get surgery, and dominate for a new team.... |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
I say let him walk. We cant afford to have our starting saftey sit out another year. Like parcels said " Football players play football". Get a guy that is a solid player in free agency, that can stay healthy and move on. I am starting to think Laron is a big sissy to scared to have surgury. Of course, I would never say that to him and hope he does not read this reply.

You forgot "Health permitting". ;) |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
What is really amazing is the the blood platelet plasma "treatment" he is recieving, although being popularized by many athletes, has yet to sure true medical validity as a treatment. I don't know if he is afraid to have surgery or if he is using it as means to give him an out from the orginization, but I agree that we definitely can't have this be a yearly issue.

I've heard it's a little from column A, a little from column B....but more so from A |

Why does he want out? Can't take being with a coach that hold players accountable? Seeing his on his 2nd strike with the failed drug test policy, he's lucky to have a job. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
I don't know why
What exactly makes you feel comfortable with a one year deal?
How would next season be any different for him than last season if he doesn't get his achilles repaired? I don't see how he could possibly get 100% healthy for next season by having a shaman wave a chicken feather over his heel. If we sign him instead of another starting calibre SS then I fear that we'll end up with a backup playing SS for most of the season.
It wouldn't. But even though the odds are against it, there's still a chance his "alt route therapy" still works. If the coaches see the adequate progress made by April-ish and he's still unsigned in free agency, and he's comfortable coming back on a 1 year deal and proving himself, I'm fine with bringing him back for another year. Reread my post. I'm not saying give him a one year deal on a bum knee, I'm saying if the circumstances fit and coaches feel he can contribute, bring him back on a one year deal. I don't feel like creating another hole on this team and filling it with another free agent option. |
you are assuming you know whats best for his body. unless youre a doctor and have worked with landry, you dont know what youre talking about. unless landry is allergic to money, i think its safe to assume that landry IS doing what he and his doctors have told him is best for his body and career.
Nope, I am not assuming what is best for his body. Did I give specific doctor's advice? I'm just telling it like it is. He can make whatever health choices he wishes, but if he makes choices which restrict his performance, the team will certainly take note. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
One of the most respected drs in the field said they need to shave bone barbs down that are snagging the tendon... seems to me that rest and strengthening of the tendon won't take care of that alone.

Are we talking about Landry or TW/FD here? |

I know Landry has not performed well lately and his health is a question, but my paranoia leads me to the same conclusion that you have reached. Despite the negatives, I am reluctant to give up on the guy. I think we can do a short-term signing (one year) and see how it plays out. I say we keep him for 2012, provided we can get for the right price. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
I'm already looking forward to seeing Gomes play SS. He might not hit like LaRon Landry, but he's solid. Gomes is still young, and his rookie experience will aid him in defining his game more and more.

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Can't play with him, won't play with him or something like that.

I'm just telling it like it is. He can make whatever health choices he wishes, but if he makes choices which restrict his performance, the team will certainly take note.
Athletes don't always make the best choices in regards to treatment. For example rather then work closely with an actual neurologist Sidney Crosby sees it better to fly to Atlanta and meet with a guy that claims to be able to treat his post concussion syndrome with spine adjustments and balance exercises. His title.......Nuerological Chiropractor. A Chiropractor that can treat seizures, migraines, and post concussion syndrome.
“Carrick then went on to say that they’ve essentially re-programmed Crosby so that space now appears on an appropriate grid. The term “markedly stable” was also used a few times.”
I'd at least like to hear what this treatment Landry is seeking actually is but if it's some hoax form of alternative medicine like chiropractic, reflexology, or magnets then it's time to move on. |
