Bourbon production reaches its highest point since 1970s | savannahnow.com

bourbon sales are going crazy. I dont know about anybody else, but when i hit the abc store its right to the Whiskey, bourbon section. I might every now and then get a dark rum or tequila if im in that beachy mode, but im usually looking at about 5 different burbon or tennessee whisky and grabbing whats on sale between them. probably trying a couple new burbons yearly too to change it up too. Hopefully with increase production and higher inventories we can see a lil price drop. Noticed the increase in price the last couple years...

Re: Let's talk good beer

ballast point ipa - damn good beer. got a sixer from dockside discount warehouse on fleet st for $9.99. i think im starting to get out of my hop head addiction which is nice. i can appreciate regular IPAs now. i dont need to drink strictly hop heavy beer.

sierra nevada torpedo - i normally dont buy domestic beers but the liquor store around the corner(with its bullet proof glass and all the other lovely trimmings that come with my neighborhood) has a very limited selection. i liked it more than i anticipated.

food spot - honey pig in ellicott city is a must try for anyone in the area. they also have locations in frederick, VA and another location. awesome amazing korean BBQ, fun environment, my 2 yr old loved it.

It's going to take years for supply to catch up with demand. For the good stuff at least.

devils backbone eight point IPA - okay. wouldnt buy it again but thats my personal preference. 3/5

public works knuckle buster ipa - disappointing. a lot of fruit hints to it, tasted like a magic hat #9 which im not a fan of. i dont think it should be labeled an IPA. 2/5

lesson learned - when you are buying 2 six packs, dont make both of them experiments w beer you have never tried or heard of. i still got 6 more of the these less than satisfying bastards sitting in my fridge.
Anyone scored one of the Sierra Nevada "Beer Camp" 12's?? My buddy found one at the total wine, now I'm on the hunt. Pretty cool idea, teamed up with 12 different breweries and are selling all 12 different brews in a limited time 12 pack. There's also a few tour stops across the country this summer. Shocker no DC love.

You lucky bastard. Still haven't found one. Luckily I made due at Costco with a 4-way IPA 24 case. Which was a hop-fest and right up my alley. It had Torpedo, Nooner, Snow Wit, and Blindfold. The Blindfold blew me away and was my favorite of the pack. When poured in a glass it is dark as night, with a really nice head. Yet when you drink it is has a light body, really hoppy, with a coffee finish. If you aren't into dark beers, you should try this one, it may open you up to a different style. Shame it's a one time brew, I'm on the hunt for some more!

It's a damn good beer. I've got one more in the fridge. Tried to find some more tonight, no dice. I ended up with Double Wide IPA from Boulevard Brewing Co. Really good find. Strong at 8.5%, but unnoticeable. Dark, hoppy and heady, it was a great beer. Along the same lines as the Blindfold.

Re: Let's talk good beer

blindfold and double wide sound really good. there is a bar in baltimore i like that is a converted double wide trailer.

the beer camp is cool. my fav so far is (surprisingly) a tropical malbock and a pale ale from cigar city brewing. the russian river contribution was a belgian style blonde which is by far my least fav type of beer and i didnt personally enjoy the russian river version. got about 8 more types to go. def adds some fun to drinking beer.

beer camp is pretty cool - apparently they are brewed by sierra nevada but in conjunction with the various brewers in two places - chico, CA and in NC. that is how they are able to get limited distribution beers like russian river to be distributed to all 50 states. all the labels are specially made beer camp labels.

I picked up a 12 pack of the 4-way IPA. Really impressed with the Blindfold and the Nooner too. Kinda meh on the Snow Wit, I'm just not big of Belgian styles in general. The Torpedo is always a solid pick.

Seems like every brewer has a variety pack now. Makes for some tough choices at the beer store lol.

Winter beer: Anchor's Christmas Ale is always good. I've probably listed some good winter beers in posts past in this thread.

Here is the list of beers I had over the last few days:
Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ | Lagunitas Brewing Company - My first Lagunitas for what it's worth. Awesome beer. Very enjoyable.

Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale - Wife picked it up. Decent offering from the macro side. Not as full flavored as most pumpkin beers, but drinkable.

Pumpkin Ale | Schlafly Beer - One of my favs (along with Southern Tier Pumpking). This is your pumpkin pie in a bottle beer.

anchor IPA was decent. union's american ale was good for a crisp light daytime beer, especially at free bucks a can.

i have to sadly take back my endorsement of balt-wash beerworks Telltale IPA .. tasted kinda stale last go around, maybe i got a bad batch.

ps - does anyone enjoy cask openings? ive been to a few and i know the beer is going to be room temperature but i just dont enjoy it.

i dont drink a lot. i drink maybe 2 six packs a week and ive been trying new beers everytime for the past 2 months or so .. hence a lot of posts by me

lagunitas maximus IPA is awesome. drank 4 or them last night and at 8.2 abv it slowed me down this morning .. .

does anyone brew their own beer? i want to start trying. my brother did it 20 years ago and it didnt look too expensive or time consuming. i think he still has all his tubes and buckets at our parents house
