Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Sorry brother, it just doesn't make sense. Vernon Davis was JUST signed to a deal averaging $5M per season. So that should tell you how much they think of him.
OJ Howard would probably come in and be 2nd string ahead of him, if they drafted him, you're right. But would you have a $5M player playing as a 3rd stringer? Davis currently has the 12th highest cap hit on the roster. They're not drafting OJ Howard. Just let it go.
It is unlikely OJ Howard will be available. However, they would be foolish to pass on him if he is available. V Davis will be 34 at the end of this season. And there are not many productive TEs that are 35 or 36. Also, only half of his contract is guaranteed . There is zero chance they pay a 36 year old TE $6+ million. Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Team has way too many more pressing holes to fill than tight end. Schneed is correct - no way we take a TE in round 1. If your crystal ball says he is Gronk 2.0 that stays healthy for the next 10-15 years though than let's talk. Lol
See I totally would say if TE is BPA then you have to take that player. Let's say OJ Howard falls and they think he's BPA. Are you going to pass on him cause you have Reed and old ass Davis?? He potentially could be a better overall TE than Reed. Reed has two things going against him... He can't block my mom and he has serious concussion issues. |

I definitely agree that Howard would be a better TE for our future than Reed or Davis. So, no, I am not passing on him because I think Reed or Davis is a better option. Im passing on him because he does not play defense. There will be someone at 17 that can come in and make an immediate impact on the other side of the ball. Someone that grades out high enough that "need" warrants as a better pick than Howard. If we do not get at least two immediate impact players on defense- again - we are a 7-9 win team. A better D would have, and will, make us a 10-12 win team. Edit: I think that the final game last year has people thinking our offense needs alot of help. The Giants had a stellar defense last year. Our offense is there. It is, without a doubt, our defense that needs attention. Im all in for 2017 because Im telling you that if KC is gone in 2018 that we are in a world of hurt again. Put a damn Defense on the field that compliments our offense and we can contend immediately. Reed and/or Davis are just fine for 2017. We are coming off two winning seasons- we are actually a "win now" team. But we need a defense. |

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Again, Reed has never played a full season. There is no chance OJ Howard sits behind V Davis. They could play a lot of two TEs sets and actually run the ball on third and two.
I guess you would pass on Rob Gronkowski too.
My hang up is...I don't think OJ Howard will be a cant miss TE. I think they are some great depth at TE this draft. And OJ Howard doesn't have Reed's or Gronk's hands. He just doesn't. |

And nobody runs routes as well as Reed. But this is an argument that says OJ Howard isn't likely to be your BPA at 17 (and I agree), as opposed to an argument against picking a TE at 17 even if he's BPA. Refutable thinks the team would make a move with its first rounder that would relegate a $5M player to 3rd string. I mean I don't know what to say. Moot point. It. Will. Not. Happen. Moving on. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
lol oh yeah, the 4th year that automatically voided.
Correct, it was technically a 4 year deal that voided to 3. So the $5M signing bonus was prorated $1.25M per season, with $1.25M of it scheduled to hit in the 4th year. When the 4th year voided that $1.25M went to deadcap. |

When the 4th year voided that $1.25M went to deadcap.
is it possible to extend that idea past 1 year? could you, in theory, sign a player to a 7 year deal that automatically voids after 4 years and spread the bonus over 7 years? |

I honestly don't know. There may be a CBA rule that forbids it, no clue. I've never heard of that being done, but that's not to say it's not permitted. |

they probably would have exploited it by now. if it was a legit loophole, i'd sign kc to something like a $130m/800,000,000 year contract which automatically voids after 6 or 7 years, something like $1m in base salary, the rest in signing bonus spread over 800,000,000 years. #spiritofthesalarycap |

OMG, the dude is a hitter, the likes of which we haven't seen since Sean Taylor. I'd be stoked if we took him at 17 and took the best DT available in round 2. |

Not to mention his Special Teams play. You could do an amazing highlights reel of his great plays on kick coverage alone. BTW, T.J. Watt is also an outstanding ST player, so let's get him in the 3rd Round to play OLB. We woud then be upgrading our defense and our ST's. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
KC just cut DL Jaye Howard, probably to save about $4.0 million in cap space. the Redskins should give him a look.... if the price is right.

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
So, I just saw that LeGarrette Blount is now a Free Agent. While rumor has it that the giants are interested, what do you think of signing him. That would free up the first round pick for Defense.

As much as I hate to give them credit, the Patriots are the masters of being able to get every drop out of someone. If he's gone from NE, he is most likely used up. |

Help me here. He rushes for a league high 18 TDs last year, the most of any runner since 2009, and you're leaping to used up? Could it be that he just wanted too much money maybe? I mean Christ. |

And 1,161 yards last year.
I'd welcome him in for a visit. |

I be more concerned that it was the system that got him 18 TD's not what is left in his tank. |

The system is not what allowed Blount to run over people on his way to the end zone. The man is a short yardage stud. I think he would be a good fit to help us solve our Red Zone problems. If wear and tear is a concern, make it a one year deal. I'd try to sign Blount and then draft a more versatile back. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
we got our Blount in Fat Rob. Lets continue to roll our own Blount and add a young baller (Mixon). A 30 year old Blount is stale. Trust me.

Maybe not this second, but let him grow as a player. Id like to see him fatter too. He was trucking dudes in the hole as a rookie...that's a positive. |

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
A number of experts have associated the Redskins with Dalvin Cook but I just don't see it because Cook has a history of fumbling. We all know how Jay Gruden reacts to fumbling.
I think we'd be more likely to take Kareem Hunt of Toledo in the third round than we would be to take Cook in the first. He has never fumbled in his entire college career. Nobody here should be shocked to see the Skins draft McCaffery if he is on the board at #17. Jay Gruden is a pass first kind of coach and I've haven't seen a back with McCaffery's receiving skills in a long time. With McCaffery, we wouldn't be talking about 30 carries per game but instead 30 touches. He is a breakaway threat running, receiving, and on returns. There is a lot of value to be had with him. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
There are a lot of pundits high on McCaffery.
If he is as good out of the backfield as they say he is he could really confuse defenses if Thompson is in the same play. I want defense in this draft but I would not have a hissy fit if we took him at 17. |
