Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Resign Donald Penn fpr 2020 and draft a future replacement for Trent with the 2nd we get for him in a trade.

ya know....I think this is the right answer. its a whole lotta nothing in FA at LT outside of AC from Indy who still might retire. I rather pay Penn 5-6 with multiple draft picks at Tackle as the plan. |

That's a good point. I know we have a number of needs, but a lot of those have positions which are strong in FA. It might be a good idea to draft 2-3 tackles and see who develops. |

Agreed. OT seems to be a position where players need a couple of seasons to be NFL ready. That's why I like resigning Penn too, this team is young (defense, receiving corps, QB ...) and needs to be looking towards the future, so I like the cheap gap OT allowing you to draft and develop TW's and Moses' replacements vs signing/trading for an expensive vet right now. |

Among the road blocks is the Skins‘ compensation request. |

Look...this is real simple. 1. We aren't taking the Comp pick or lower if he returns and leaves next in FA next year. That doesn't make sense for us. 2. If Trent is truly a 20 mil per year talent Tackle, the compensation for these isnt just a couple mid round picks. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Skins are likely asking for a 1st right now, teams are scoffing and saying two 3rds which is BS. A 2nd gets it done IMO. A 2nd in the top half of the round I should say.

Mike Garafolo reported Redskins is asking a 2nd round pick for Williams. https://twitter.com/MikeGarafolo/status/1238538719474397184 |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Not getting a reasonable trade offer is a good thing to happen, IMO. Williams and his agent will then see first hand that he just isn't worth what he's asking. He reports and plays for the $12.5 million called for in his contract and plays well so he can increase his value for next year. We trade him at the deadline to a contender in desperate need of a tackle.

Jets or Cards will fold soon I bet |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Get the 2nd rounder or force him to play for you. He can’t use the Bruce Allen almost ignored my cancer thing with Ron here. If he sits he’ll look terrible and harm his value on the market next year, who pays $20M a year for a guy who hadn’t played in two full seasons? He’ll play for Ron, so call his bluff, stick to your guns and get the 2 or just keep him.
Jets or Cards will fold soon I bet
I don't think anyone will fold until the season starts. I am pretty sure teams will try the draft and give the guy through camp and the preseason until they give up a high draft pick and TW's contract demands for an aging left tackle starting to have dependability issues. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Big news
Colts extend Anthony Castonzo https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/03/15/colts-extend-anthony-castonzo/ The ONLY LT talent comparable to Trent is signed, and he did so at a lower number than I expected. So Trents market could heat up with a big talent off the board |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Now the CBA is done teams will be more confident of signing him to an extension, as with all the deals that are suddenly happening, maybe there will be some movement on draft picks if they can ensure he will sign an extension

Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

I think that OT is going to be a position where Kyle Smith drafts a bunch of players in the draft and UDFA and then hopes one or two can become a rookie starter. I could see us trying out 4-6 OT players at OT. Kyle has been able to get diamonds out of coal and he’ll be trying again this season at this position. They may try a stopgap older FA, but the draft is where they’ll be looking to replace Trent AND (hopefully) Moses. Kyle - do your magic! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
JK: Viewed as Right tackle. Not spending huge $ to then switch to the left side.
@john_keim How high is Conklin on the #Redskins board? I feel like this would be priority one. He is still a young player and could be the LT for 10 years. I totally agree with this and glad the Skins aren’t gonna do something dumb like this. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I'd bring Conklin in to replace Moses if it doesn't break the bank. TW likely won't be replaced in FA because there isn't anyone young enough, good enough to warrant the $.
I'd say TE (Hooper), RT (Conklin), LB (Schobert or Littleton) and maybe FS(Harris?) filled through FA, leaving the remaining needs through the draft; TE, WR, LT (multi picks as Warthog says), LB and DB. Any more depth needed, like #2 QB, via cheap FA and lower picks/UDFA. We need to keep cap room to cover any renegotiations (i.e. Scherff) and remaining needs, so going all out in FA isn't sensible to me. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Conklin signed with the Browns, so there goes the top trade partner for Trent.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is precedent, but I agree unlikely. Curious though that Chargers are building up their OL and keeping a good TE with no established QB. Its just pure speculation on my part but I wonder If they are talking to us about a package with TW and the #2 pick? |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
More likely they want a bone fide LT to get Tom Brady
|

TW and the 2nd pick would cost the earth |

That was my thinking, a rookie, but it is too expensive a move for them.
