First, the Redskins went with a variety of three-man rushes, dropping eight defenders into coverage. The strategy forced Brady to hold onto the football for a season-high 2.65 seconds on average in the pocket and led to pressure-induced by coverage, which was the case on Washington’s first sack.
--------------------------
On Hightower’s first sack, the Pats linebacker told me after the game that the motion by wide receiver Trey Quinn tipped him off to the play call. He saw the same concept on tape, so he knew that he could leave his coverage assignment to chase down McCoy.
------------------
On Brandon Bolden’s 29-yard touchdown catch, the Redskins sent a delayed blitz at Brady by the middle linebacker. Brady eludes the linebacker in the pocket and throws off his back foot to Bolden on the wheel route for a touchdown. The Pats cleared out the side for Bolden to work against the linebacker on a similar scheme to James White’s long catch against Buffalo last week.

^^ cut n paste from the article above. I was looking for an article on advanced stats re how many times did we drop back Anderson or Sweat or Kerrigan to drop back into coverage. I didnt find that but i found this.

Article has a bunch of videos of plays it breaks down. Really good article.

29 yard td pass to Bolden kinda epitomizes the problems w the D. MLB Holcomb comes in on a delayed blitz and has a free shot at Brady but somehow takes a bad angle or slips (wtf Cole!?) and gives Brady enough time to hit a running back who is being defended by Ryan fucking Anderson.

Stop putting Ryan Anderson, Monteaz Sweat and Ryan Kerrigan in coverage. Stop putting in sub packages where an O Coord can move guys around to get a speed guy paired up with a Ryan, Monteaz or Ryan.

Tony Bergstrom did a nice job of getting out into space and sticking with his guy on the Steve Sims run. He got Colt killed a few times as well but on this particular play, on this particular block .. Tony Bergstrom did his job.

Video is in the article I linked above. Like Bullock's stuff for redskins but from the pats media.

29 yard TD bolden....I mentioned this on the game day thread...cole Holcomb has a clear fucking lane to Brady which he could have sack or at the minimum disrupted the pass...cole froze like a coward and was late. He was FUCKING standing there looking a Brady before he reacted. No god damn instincts

Cole was put in a position to win. All he had to do was run straight forward and tackle Tom Brady. Its frustrating bc the first 4 games, our rushers were asked to at least win a 1-on-1 battle and couldnt do it.

Here, Cole doesnt even need to beat a guy. The play design gives me a free sack like halloween candy. All he had to do was take a free sack but he stumbled walking up to the door.

Then we ask Ryan Anderson to be in coverage on a RB ... wtf! I dont blame Ryan Anderson .. he shouldnt be asked to cover a RB 20 plus yards down field with 0 help. That right side was completely empty.

Shouldnt Ryan Anderson be rushing the QB and Holcomb covering a back?

Holcomb is so fortunate we drafted him because he would not be playing anywhere else. He sucks.

I noticed Holcomb hesitated on that particular play, Chico.

He did something similar last week versus Daniel Jones. He had a clear path to either hit (to disrupt the pass) or sack Jones, but he slightly pulled up and attempted to bat the ball (he nearly knocked it down). It was a 3rd down play, and Jones ended up converting the toss for a Giants first down.

^^ video of the Holcomb non-play.

Brady takes 2 slow steps to his right and Holcomb looks like he is on ice skates.

I was literally dumbfounded when this happened. Like my brain couldn't compute how he didn't know what to do.

It was like watching the red seas part and instead of walking through Moses was like "wait is it supposed to be this easy? I'm new!! Idk what to do?!?!?!"
