I can almost guarantee we get a late first rounder for Cousins.
I doubt it only because teams with late 1st round picks usually are set at qb. my guess would be a very high second.

VegasSkinsFan 03-31-2013 01:26 PM

True. I could see a second and 4th depending in how much playing time he gets this year. If he plays the first 3-4 games and we go 2-1 or 3-1 I see us getting much more for him.

Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013

It all depends on what the market is for QB through free agency and draft. This off season is perfect time to trade Cousins away because few teams are starving for a legit QB, but we need him. All we can do is hope that, in Cousin's last year of contract or whatever Shanny's plan is, the QB market is similar to this.

True but you never know, it could be a team that has two first rounders and isnt set at QB

No need to rush on trading Cousins. There's always a shortage of quality starters in the league. Someone is always looking for a QB.

agreed, not to mention I would like to see Griffin go a whole season and show he can protect himself. I expect he will, but would like to see it first before Capt Kirk is traded away.

Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013

Wouldn't it be great though if we could trade cousins for a first rounder in 2014, and the team that trades for Kirk ends up having the worst record, which leads to us getting the first overall pick and we get clowney. Oh the possibilities that could be.

JoeRedskin 03-31-2013 03:59 PM

I am not only in no hurry to trade Cousins, I wouldn't mind if he stayed a Redskin long term. Not going to happen, but there is value in having a solid back up who could otherwise be considered a starter.

Then Griffin goes down, we have no backup, and we have a top 5 pick the next year. yes, the possibilities are endless.

of course neither of these scenarios are probable.

Cousins is a damn nice insurance policy.
We need to forget hes even on the roster.
No one should be so stupid as to trade away their insurance.

What is this Cousins talk? We need a young capable backup, and for the med to long term as well. RGIII is all that, but he is also one massive hit to the knee from maybe calling it a career or just being injury prone. Also, with the my aforementioned post about Kolb and Cassell being overrated busts, that were made hot for just a few games of work, might have teams cool on Cousins. Cousins didn't even get a full 2 games in.

Skins fans hate having two good players in one position.

But St Louis gets that pick anyway so that is a useless pick, and Cousins goes to the playoffs and we get a pick between 20-32. Yay..

VegasSkinsFan 03-31-2013 09:09 PM

It's not that I want to see cousins traded as much as I see a young quality backup QB as an asset. If we didn't have holes in the secondary I would think twice. That and I don't want to have to pay him once he's off his rookie contract. I would rather trade him sooner and fill a hole instead of keeping him and watching him leave for nothing.

Also, I know I'll get killed for this. But I don't mind grossman as a backup for the next two years. I know we won't set the world on fire with him, but he's capable.

MTK 03-31-2013 09:25 PM

Grossman over Cousins? Yeah you are gonna get killed and probably rightfully so.

You gotta keep Cousins. We get more mileage out of him while we build his trade value.

Not so much grossman over cousins as much as grossman and picks over cousins.

After watching Cousins pull out that miracle over the Ravens...

I just don't think Grossman could've done the same.
You gotta keep Cousins. We get more mileage out of him while we build his trade value.
But what about if he doesn't play well when comes in to pinch hit next year?? He's not going to be building his trade value then. He has built it because he has played limited games and looked good, a la Kevin Kolb & Matt Flynn. But if that success doesn't continue in limited action, they that value can go right back down.

Not that I think it will, just sayin'....

Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013

Cousins has only seen what, 5-6 quarters of action so far? It takes a bit more than that to build some real value.

It has been working for Kevin Kolb. Lol

cousins made the most out of what he was given. his first showing wasn't super, but he played well vs the ravens and cleveland, which have/had decent passing D's from what i remember.

and he'll have all preseason to look great vs future grocery baggers soon enough...

He might crap up the joint. Dems the risks. :) But his trade value is limited now.

Not a bad backup

That's an interesting move by the 9ers. I could see them drafting a guy this year at some point in the draft to be Colin's back up. I don't see alot of value in McCoy.

Monetary issues aside, replacing Alex Smith with McCoy, even as a backup, is a decided step down for the 9ers.

Heyward-Bey should have never been drafted by the Raiders. He never lived up to his potential in Oakland. With a Colts team coming from off a playoff appearance last year, it's just a matter of Heyward-Bey filling right in.

Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013

McCoy will be a good backup. I would rather have McCoy, a second round pick, another conditional pick, and saved cap space then just Alex Smith as a backup.

None of the top 10 picks that year really worked out except for B.J. Raji.

Man Oakland was batsh*t crazy to give up two 1st rounders for Palmer in the first place. You'd think Vinny Cerrato was pulling those strings.
