What's more important the System or the player ? Does anyone think Dak is a top
Level QB? Hurts is a solid QB but they can't go but so far giving up points like they did to Dallas .. Purdy was last player in draft selection .Bryce Young first player selected..Sam played Big time college Ball and has seen everything the NFL has to this point . His supporting cast is dismal and still he has showed great potential.. If we had used a number one pick on him would we be talking about yet another number one pick QB ?? Let's take a page out of San Fran and build a team around the QB and give him a chance .. We never ever seem to learn .. Right now who would you pick Bryce Young or Purdy ?? There is no way this team can afford a swing and miss with our top pick .. and it's at best a 50/50 gamble with a QB .. What is it that Sam can't do ?? He can Run .. he has enough arm strength to throw it deep .. he is tough as nails .. his team mates love him .. he is coachable .. yes he has struggled but what QB wouldn't with the WORST Oline in league .. and always playing from Behind because we have WORST D in league.. AND WORST coaching staff in league ... yea that is a blueprint for success 😳. If we don't Upgrade significantly the Oline and get TE and won't matter if we have the number one overall pick ..
Selecting a QB in the first round doesn't mean that we are not going to attempt to fill other roster needs. That whole argument is getting old. Even with a trade, we're likely to have draft picks to fill needs, and we'll have $90 million dollar of cap room to fill any roster needs. You know what this team has not had since Joe Gibbs' second stint as coach? A GM and HC having the ability to pick their own QB without Snyder meddling in the decision. And again, I'm not saying we HAVE to draft a QB with the first round pick. But I don't get this strong opposition from fans to the notion of this happening. |

We make way too much of draft position in assessing how to slot needs. The need to find good QB’ing is never satisfied, and if they really like a guy, pick him wherever he’s available, high or low. At the same time, this organization has been terrible at developing players into a cohesive and successful system. Howell is smart and has good skills and toughness. If the new bosses like him and they don’t like who’s available when they are picking, fine. Just have a plan and keep extraneous bullshit out of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Find myself agreeing with this. Yes, we have to think about a QB IF the right guy is available, and it would be hard to overlook Harrison if he too is available. But at #4 (likely) and unlikely to find the top 3 willing to trade with us, Alt or Fashanu make total sense. Not sure about Jackson with the 2nd pick, but he does make sense with Alt. And it would mean they only need to find a replacement RT in free agency to have a totally rebuilt line. Still like us to address WR, a backup QB, and improved depth all round, but a draft like this and good use of FA could put us in a competitive position next season. |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Harrison, Alt, and Fashanu would all be awesome additions. I will exit day 1 with a smile on my face if we got any one of them. And Howell would definitely be smiling!

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
I read today Fashanu hasn’t given up a sack his entire collegiate career. Insane

This is the Redskins/WFT/Commanders way! But I think this is the final year of it. I trust Harris to hire the right people. Frankly, I have to! |

I figured you would like this one. As you're definitely the leader, or co-leader, of the offense matters way more than defense movement (when it comes to consistency over multiple years). |

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
IF we pick @4 and IF we could make the trades work (some of these are very optimistic), I'd be very happy with something like this. I just can't see Alt dropping to #7.
I'd personally like to see us plug a few gaps with FA, but mainly with the draft. Young guys that will hopefully justify an extended contract in a few years bolstered with a few FA's so the cap remains manageable for years to come. IF SH is the future we need to be able to build a roster that supports him and manage cap to allow us to retain him when his rookie deal expires without sacrificing the rest of the roster. trade down 7. Joe Alt OT Notre Dame 36. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. LB Clemson 41. Emeka Egbuka WR Ohio State trade back 73. Ruke Orhorhoro DT Clemson trade back 78. Christian Haynes OG UConn 96. I'm very disappointed in Sams play .. I truly thought he could be the diamond in the rough .. late round gem .. boy was I way off ( he hasn't played well for a long time .. I figured he would bounce back and give us hope .. not to be

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Jam was right about Howell. We all had rose colored glasses on lol. He could still become a good QB but is he the franchise guy? Very unlikely
