Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
It boils down to whether or not the Browns take Trent Richardson and move on with Colt McCoy and I think they will.
you think or you hope, LOL. cause in my mind, the browns would be absolutely silly not to take RG3 with their first pick, and the best available blindside tackle for him with their second 1st rounder. Cleveland will also want to sign someone (Dwayne Bowe, Desean Jackson) to put out there with their future big time guy (Greg Little), so there are definitly pieces in place in Cleveland to look alot better starting next year, ESPECIALLY after they snag RG3, which, sorry to say........they will. Cleveland will look alot better starting next year, trust me. With either a more seasoned McCoy with another season under his belt and renewed confidence when they don't pick RG3 and stick it out with him, or with RG3, and a FA WR to pair with Greg Little, and hopefully that blindside protector he needs that the browns dont currently have. Either way, they will come to play next year. God Damn do I wish we had 2 first rounders. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
But are the chiefs gonna take him instead of Cassel??? Living Colorado i've seen a lot of Orton. Good very servicable. Only problem he cant win games on his own. Needs either playmakers or a good system or a good defense.
Orton over Cassel? Doubt it. Cassel signed a 6 year $60M deal in 2009, so I doubt they would want to eat that and in turn give a deal to Orton too. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
I was on the Orton bandwagon as well. He would be a good vet to have until a rook is ready to play. And let's not even start with this silliness that he's no better than Grossman. He's been much better over his career at taking care of the ball. 80-57 TD to INT vs 56 TD to 60 INT for Rex.
ya, who the hell had that bandwagon in their sig, i know i was on it, considering our current lineup of Qbs on the roster |

Depends on the rookie and how long he needs to get ready. If it's 4-6 weeks then fine...but If it's a rookie like Tannehill who may need a year+ to be ready then they need to do better then Orton. |

Not sure right now. The answer may be that there's not a better one on the market but then my response would be that they can't aford to go with a rookie other then Luck or RG3 if the best bridge QB available is Orton. |

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Here's what I'd like to see in 2012.
1st QB: Rookie QB starting (by week 5 at the latest): Let's say Nick Foles. Not any inside info here or anything, I'm just putting it out there as an example. 2nd QB: Proven veteran who can step in a pinch. Looking at the available choices. I like Orton the best, (or maybe dislike him the least?). Look, I'm not a huge Orton fan by any means and maybe (most likely) a guy like Clausen has more upside. But I just want a guy who has starts under his belt and if pressed can step into action. System be damned. Looking at the possibilities right now, to me that's Orton. What, you're asking, makes selecting Orton so much a better backup than just keeping Grossman? And why would Orton come here to be a backup? To the second question, I don't know. To the first, because I don't want the crutch of Grossman anymore. The easiest way, in my opinion, for us to move forward at the QB position is to clean house there. I'm guessing here, but I think the Shanahans would be less inclined to look to their bench and go to the backup if Foles (again, just an example) is struggling, if it's not Grossman. Just tough out with the rookie. 3rd QB: Late round, even UDFA QB. We'll say Chandler Harnish because I know they've scouted him. This is the guy (meaning the position of 3rd QB) who tears it up in preseason, who can be coached up during the season, and emerges either as a valuable backup/future starter in a year or two for the Redskins or as trade bait |

The only difference is that I would not use Foles as an example but would use Tannehill as a certainty. |
ugh...
I second you on that UGH....we wouldnt be any better off w/ Orton than we are with Grossman. He is not leading us to a Super Bowl, and that's the ultimate goal. Orton is who we thought he is, a game manager. Orton is my last choice, I'd rather have Flynn or Hoyer if we are going after a nfl qb, give them a chance. Orton had his time. Ideally I want RGIII at #6 or Kirk Cousins in the 2nd round. |

That might be Washington, but I just don't know about Orton. I think he has the best resume/experience out of any of the free agent QBs and probably one that wouldn't cost much to get. I think I'd still just sign Jimmy Clausen knowing he's plan B and try my best to move up to get RG III or to move down and get Tannehill. I just don't know much about Foles. Off to You Tube I go to see some clips...LOL! |

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
I dont know much about Kirk Cousins, but I like his size. Cant find allot of highlights. Can someone post some.
