Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
For me, I just don't like where the game is going. It completely favors one side of the ball and that's unfair. The NFL is becoming the arena league. 4,000 yards passing isn't even a big deal anymore and now we have guys near 5,000 every year. The QB's are over protected to the point that it's absurd, wr's can take two steps before they can be hit, pass interference is a joke, a lot of the helmet to helmet calls look like routine hits. Sean Taylor would be the most fined player in the league if he was still playing. Yeah I'll still watch cause I love football, but all these things I mention just water it down for me.

Have to agree with you . The rookie QB's of today put up numbers the HOF QBs could'nt even come close to in the early-mid 70's . |
Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
Here's a very telling stat of todays video game league. Matthew Stafford has basically thrown for 5,000 yards two years in a row. His name will be next to Dan Mariono's in the record books.
I'm having a hard time understanding how everything RG does wrong or lets say is not popular is the owners fault because they run the league yet RG gets credit for increased revenue between 2006 when Taglibue was commish and 2012....6 years later with RG as commish. Wasn't that expected no matter who the commish was? Did anyone in 2006 expect the most popular sport in America with an extremely strong following expect the league to make less money 6 years later? Given the product you'd have to be pretty inept for that to happen. As NC Skins just stated...people keep coming back basically no matter what. I mean shit...given that clientele any company could increase profits.
You could argue that the league has not done anything so damaging, that would affect their profits and popularity. And what I have been trying to point out that a lot of the decisions made by RG are not made by JUST him. The Owners have a lot of saying on what happens in the league of course. I would say some of the ways that RG has executed/enforced these decisions by the owners are unpopular/wrong/etc. I think the whole argument of the rising profits since Tagliabue is to counter the argument that Goodell is ruining the league. One could say that Goodell has done a good "caretaker" job, but still he has not/is not ruining the league so far as some argue. I think you make a good point about people coming back to football, I mean you saw that during the Replacement Ref situation. I guarantee that if we have had a defensive Super Bowl with a score of 10-7, people would be b*tching left and right about it. |

Exactly and Stafford isn't even any good really. |
Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
I think the Colts and Patriots are the to blame for this explosion of offensive firepower.
It was the Colts that pushed for the "no contact after 5 yards" rule after they lost to the Pats a couple of years ago in the playoffs. And then there's the Brady rule, where you basically can't touch a QB (definitely not Brady). Throw in the safety rules about hitting a defenseless receiver and you have the surge in offensive yards that we've seen in the past few seasons. |
Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
Yep Peyton bitched and cried and the league changed the 5 yard rule and of course after BrADY now u cant even hit people anymore

Lets not forget the rule I hate the most ..."the horse collar rule".....that dear friends is from Jerry Jones! |

I won't hold my breath on that. |

That rule actually makes sense because of the leg twisting back. Guys were getting their knees/ ankles blown out. I have no issue with that rule. |
Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
Yeah, the horse collar rule has an obvious safety component built in and thus is a good one.

The horse collar rule seems to me like one that got it right. It's a bad tackling practice that can do severe damage to a runner's knees and legs. I refuse to thank JJ, but if he's responsible, it's something I wont use against him. |
